The young guns are on the up big time this year, Camilo almost winning the matchplay and then winning the Honda, AK winning at Houston and then remaining consistent and contending almost each and every week he plays (with a detatched ligament in his thumb), Dustin Johnson winning at Pebble again, Mahan with a come from behind win in Phoenix, Ishikawa wins a tournament on the Japanese tour after shooting a final round 58 (WOW!), Fowler in contention for a few tournaments this year already and looking promising, and now this from McIlroy today which was just incredible, i mean shooting 62 normally is unbelievable but to do it on the final day when in contention to win the golf tournament is just phenominal. The future of this game is looking very, very bright and this year is just going to be dominated by these youngsters in my opinion and i for one cannot wait!

Great day for avid golf fans. While these young guns probably won't bring in the mainstream or drive up prize purses like Tiger did/ still can, they certainly have provided a lot of excitement recently and a "young vs. old" dynamic the Tour hasn't seen for a decade. I'm sure the PGA is also thrilled with this because for years (among the average fan at least) it has basically been Tiger, Phil and "the field". Maybe some of these young guns can start leaving a bigger mark, keep growing youth golf and get in that elite group on top of the game that seems to find the front page of the leaderboard almost every time they tee it up. Looking at the rest of this year's majors though, I think the veterans will be back on top at St. Andrews and the PGA, but maybe a young gun will contend at Pebble.

Always good to see top young talent rise to the top, especially in droves like we've seen this year. The guys mentioned above have some major game, too.

Now if Sergio, Charles Howell, Adam Scott, Badds et al would just step it up....

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
