Rules Question: What is the ruling when a ball is hit by a player and then hits a tree and bounces back and hits the golfer who struck it? It hit his body, not his club. What if it had hit another player or the golf cart?

If you can post a thread here, you can answer this for yourself! The official rules are all online.

Hint: in stroke play, the fellow competitor is an outside agency, so rule 19-1 applies.

If it hits the player himself, then it's a one stroke penalty and he plays the ball as it lies. If it hits his fellow competitor, then there is no penalty and he plays the ball as it lies. If that other player is sitting in a cart shared by both players, then that player is considered as part of the equipment of the player hitting the shot and he is penalized.

If it hits a golf cart shared jointly by him and another player, then it depends. The cart and everything in it (including the other player) is generally considered to be the equipment of the player hitting the shot and he incurs a one stroke penalty. If the cart is moving and being driven by the other player then it is that player's equipment and there is no penalty and the ball is played as it lies. See Decision 19/1
