I am looking for recommendations on steel shafts. I usually play a stiff flex shaft as I have a swing speed over 100mph. That being said, I've been trying out some clubs with regular flex shafts and I really like the Lag that comes with a regular shaft. However, I don't want something "whippy", can you guys recommend a shaft that is stiff enough to get better control, but produces some lag? brand??

Rifle 6.0 is a very nice shaft which falls into the softer side of stiff & and the firm side of regular. Super nice feel to them. I installed some Rifles into a set of Titliest's for a friend a couple months ago and they are sweet. Im thinking about installing them in my irons. Project X is another really nice shaft. They both come in the 6.0.

I would also recommend Rifle 5.5's or 6.0's. I wish I had gotten my MP57's in 5.5's for the exact same reason.

Far too much many variables here. Seriously. What ball flight are you after? Height? Spin? Feel? Preferred weight of shaft? Etc etc....

I have no problem getting the ball high, I am looking for a little more spin and feel. I prefer a lighter shaft.

You can always get a stiff shaft soft stepped as well. I had to do that because I am in right at the beginning swing speed for stiff shaft. The soft step makes it inbetween a stiff and regular. For my irons recently I went with the dynamic gold high launch shaft in stiff and soft stepped once. The guys at titleist recommended this shaft based off the mizuno shaft optimizer recommendation of a mizuno shaft. They said this one was most comparable out of what they offer for the ap2 irons.

Shafts are one of those golfing myths for me. I can see a perfect shaft on paper and hit it like a dog, or I can see something that would never suit me and I get a great ball flight. In the UK we are a little hampered by the lack of true custom fitting places but the best bet is to find a club head you like and go to a fitting shop and try as many shafts as you can.

I just got a new set of irons with the Project X flighted shaft in 6.0 and they feel great. I didn't really go through a proper selection process as there are not many easily accessible places for that round here that would do them at a sensible price but these work for me. Such a huge step up from my old irons that it is worth it. The time and expense to get the extra 10% just wasn't justifiable in my opinion.

Are the Rifles softer than the PX's? Because a 6.0 in a PX is almost an x-stiff. The are comparable in stiffness to a DG x100. The PX 5.5 is more stiff than a DG S300. He would be better off soft stepping a 5.5.

Ug. You like the PXs? Feel awful for me but each to their own.

To the OP. I like the standard Rifle and Flighted Rifle. I'm not sure about lag that they allow but to me , they feel like they have a nice kick into the ball. They aren't really a low launch though so you might get a bit higher flight than is best for you. What shafts do you play currently?
