For USGA GHIN I am wondering how many scores it takes to establish a index number. I have posted 5 official scores and wondering when I will have a number instead of NH under my index...

P.S I have a 10 stated under my avatar because when I signed up I shot a 80 on a 70.1 rated course...

How many rounds until I get a number ?

From http://www.usga.org/HandicapFAQ/hand....asp?FAQidx=3:

Section 3

Establishing a Handicap Index®

Q. How do I establish a Handicap Index?

A. You must be a member of a golf club. The USGA® defines a golf club as an organization of at least ten individual members that operates under bylaws with committees (including a Handicap Committee) to supervise golf activities, provide peer review, and maintain the integrity of the USGA Handicap System™ (See Compliance Checklist, Section 8-2m). A golf club must be licensed by the USGA to utilize the USGA Handicap System. A club can obtain a license agreement (see Appendix F, USGA Handicap System manual) directly from the USGA or through its membership in an authorized golf association that is already licensed by the USGA and that has jurisdiction in the geographic area that includes the principal location of the club. For more information on finding a golf club or forming your own golf club, please go to ""Getting a USGA Handicap Index."" http://www.usga.org/playing/handicap..._handicap.html

Once a player joins a golf club, the player should post adjusted gross scores. When the player posts five adjusted gross scores, and a revision date passes, the club will issue the player a Handicap Index. To determine your area’s revision schedule, please refer to our Authorized Golf Association Revision Schedule. http://www.usga.org/playing/handicap..._schedule.html .

This ought to help. :) For Missouri golf clubs in that revision schedule, it seems they're on a 1st and 15th of the month schedule. Granted I don't have a handicap myself (and probably won't for a good while yet lol), so this's just me doing a little searching legwork.

What's in my Tartan Precise TS-869 Bag:

Wedges: PureSpin Tour Series Diamond Face 52* AW, 56* SW, 60* LW, Golf Pride...

When the next revision is published you should have a handicap of sorts. It will change a lot until you get more scores submitted, as each card you return can have a more direct effect until there are more scores in the calculation.

I keep track of my own handicap and found a chart that tells you how many differentials are used to calculate the handicap. That way you can know what will go into the handicap until you get to 20. When you get to 20, it uses the lowest 10 of the last 20. But until then:

rounds
5-6 [use 1]
7-8 [use 2]
9-10 [use 3]
11-12 [use 4]
13-14 [use 5]
15-16 [use 6]
17 [use 7]
18 [use 8]
19 [use 9]
20 [use 10]

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
    • I would say both are equally not the best for golf. Is it better than nothing, sure.  Golf is an athletic motion. Professional golfers are doing a comprehensive workout routine focusing on strength, power, flexibility, stability. They might include some yoga into the routine. I would put both of them in the recovery bin, not golf enhancement bin.  If you want to increase swing speed, core strength, longevity in golf and life, then lift heavy weights.
