Here's what happens when a beginner gets blades:

OK, that is the funniest thing I have read in a while !!!

As a beginner, I would steer away from brand new as well....buy a nice "educated" set, then when/if you feel the need to upgrade/downgrade your wallet won't burn as much. I recently upgraded to the 755's I have now after using a set of Big Bertha 04's for a season, and it only cost $100 out of my pocket. A used club will resell closer to what you paid for it than a new one will.

Well, after a bunch of swings and tryouts I decided to go Mizunos. The MP-57 are within my budget, so I'm going to grab these. Will scour all the used club sites for them. They're "harsher" than my shovels, but they feel so so nice when I get a clean shot off them. Anyone got a lead on good MP-57 irons? The fitter at Dick's said standard loft and lie should be fine. He also recommended me for Regular to Stiff flex, but said either would be good for the swing I have now... and with practice I'd be able to handle a stiff flex shaft with a stronger lie angle no problem. If I was ambitious enough, he said I could go with a stiff flex shaft, and a .5 degree stronger lie on my clubs if I wanted.

I have no idea if that makes sense, since I'm still new and need to learn the terminology better. Maybe I'll drop by the pro shop at one of the local courses when I'm at the range next time.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
