What is the deal with this? Can any pro call? Really in a bind here. How do they know you are a pro? Should I call and try to impersonate?

Any more details on your situation?

If you want to play a private club which is out of town, your local pro can call and try to set things up. In some states, there's an informal Pro Network for such exchanges.

Sometimes, the pro at the other end will hook you up with one of his members who will act as your sponsor for the round.

Not sure if this is your situation.

Looking to play at a resort in AZ. I'm not a member anywhere so I really have no pro to go to.

Need more information on the situation. If it's a totally private club or tee times are otherwise restricted, then you're probably out of luck. I've never seen a place that was open to the public but required a pro to get your time. If you're looking to exploit the pro to pro relationship to get onto a restricted course - it tends to be a pretty informal thing. More of a courtesy between members of the same network.

That's not the kind of thing I'd really try to con lest you get into the bad graces of your local courses, etc. I'm not sure how hard people will check, but it's probably pretty easy to verify via the PGA website or a directory of clubs, etc.

A resort implies a public setting. I don't know of any "resort" that the public can't play...as long as you are staying there.
