All else equal, less lost = more forgiving on short game?

I'm the OP and I try to avoid these shots. Unfortunately, these shots are called upon.

I faced these shots twice today. 50 yard shot from tight lies on the fairway. The fairways are very sandy here and bounce will be no help. So a ball contact first is mandatory.

I'd normally play this with half swing 56*. But I played it with 46* PW. Both shots were not perfect but got on the green, which is all what I wanted. If I played with 56*, I would probably chunked both shots.
