So I hemmed and hawed today at PIAS, wanting to get rid of my old Northwestern irons (not used a whole lot) so I could start anew with a somewhat used yet still in quite good shape set of clubs on the cheap. I saw a few different sets (including starters) there, and wasn't quite sure. However, I just liked the size/feel (or at least, what I've learned about feel as a beginner :P) of the Tommy Armour 855s priced at $90 for 3H, 4H, and irons (as listed in sig). Haven't gotten to try them out yet, but hopefully they're going to be a good deal. Given how I'm still a beginner, I wanted to find something cheap and still somewhat better/newer than my old set. I searched around the 'net for reviews on my Blackberry while I was there, and it seemed like they could be a good buy.

I also picked up a nice new stand bag for $35 (as listed below). Not necessarily asking if the irons were a good buy, just wanted to gloat about my first club purchase in years.

What's in my Tartan Precise TS-869 Bag:
Woods: Northwestern 1W, 3W, stock grip
Hybrids: 855 Graphite shaft 3H, 4H, Golf Pride Tour Wrap midsize grips
Irons: 855 R flex steel shaft 5-PW, Golf Pride Tour Wrap midsize grips
Wedges: PureSpin Tour Series Diamond Face 52* AW, 56* SW, 60* LW, Golf Pride...

Not exactly new (some cosmetic damage but nothing performance related... for what little I know about performance LOL), but new to me. Hopefully I can get to the range later this week... or I'll just hit around a little bit in between the raindrops in the back yard (with Floppys).

Since I can't edit anymore, I wanted to note that the set is actually 855, not 855s/Silver Scot. I've been trying to identify how old the set might be, but I'm having no luck.

Is that what it says on the back of the irons, just 855? That model isn't listed on valueguide.pga.com, nor have I ever heard of it. I used to own a set of 855s:

I think they were released in 1994.

Just 855. I checked around, and it seems that Sports Authority had this model on closeout earlier this year (April or so) for $150, as well as Black Friday last year for $175 or $200 (I forget). Here's a pic of one in my bag, sorry for the pic quality issue.
