Today my putting was awful. If you added all of them up I think it was 20ft worth of putts holed.

Whats your worst/best?

If you're goin by that article that was posted around here..isn't it impossible to get less than 36ft? If you're counting actual feet, then disregard.

I don't know if I agree with that article, though. Seems that every time I play..I am holing out 70+ feet of putts without 3 putts and somewhere around 60-65 if I have a couple 3 putts(luckily those have almost gone extinct this year!) That article says those distances are for 5 and lower handicaps....but that ain't me!

You know, I liked the concept of that article when I first saw it a while back, but seems there's one major flaw in that system: It penalizes you for really good chips and approach shots. I.e., if your first putt is 2 feet or less because of a good approach or chip, you get a really low length-of-putt value for that hole. It's not that you putted poorly, it's that you had no opportunity to make a significant putt in the first place.

Not sure how to address that though - maybe use average length of putt holed, instead of total length, and don't consider the holes where you had no opportunity to make a putt longer than 2 feet...

Yeah, I think you need to track both the opportunity and the actual delivered goods to go that route. His method probably works out for averages, though, because on average you probably don't have many 2-foot 1-putts. There is a more complex method that they're playing with (or perhaps fully using, not sure) on the PGA now that was talked about on here recently where you actually compute the difficulty of your various putts based on length plus how the field performs (I think, don't recall exactly). That's really the *right* way to do it---how many putts better or worse than some average were you. Unfortunately, that requires enormous quantities of statistics and is really impossible for non-tour players to use...

I think I'll stick to counting putts and tracking first putt and not trying to turn those into some magical number, I can reason about two numbers at once....
