Amen to that

What are ya'll talking about??? Since when is the NW tour flaming out????

Whats wrong with the last two winners? Are 17 year olds not "real" amateurs (Danny Lee & An Byeong-hun)? Of the Last 16 winners only 4 are on the NW tour, of which one (Colt Knost) is in the top 10 in money and soon a big tour guy. 2 are on the European tour, and Edourdo Molinari is on the cusp of the Ryder cup team. 2 are not even eligible for tour membership (under 18). Then you have Tiger, Ryan Moore, Ricky Barnes, Jeff Quinney, Matt Kuchar...Yea, they are all hacks!!! Or are you waiting for someone like Tom Jackson, the eteranl amateur to win it?

That's not what I thought he meant by a junior professional. I thought by true amateur he meant someone who only plays amateur events and doesn't try to play on mini tours and what not. I was thinking more along the lines of a junior all the way up to mid amateur age (25) being a "true amateur". A mid amateur is likely a seasoned amateur, unless s/he picked up golf after 25.

I'd consider my buddy a true amateur. He plays in a ton of amateur events and college events. T118th at the AM so he made a decent run at it. Shot 74 at the HC and 79 at Chambers Bay.

Oh and how is the nationwide tour player a junior professional? Just because they are not on the PGA tour doesn't make them not a professional. Infact, the Nationwide tour is basically runner up to the PGA tour in terms of player skill. Not to mention, the Nationwide tour guarantees the top 25 players a PGA tour card.

So if nationwide players are junior professionals, then so are those who only play on the European Tour, Asian Tour, etc etc. They are still professional golfers (professionals get paid).

Yeah, thats what i meant. I would just like to see a real amateur player win one again.

So I was looking at the TV Schedule, it says coverage starts today, so is the coverage delayed by a day? Oops now I just looked at the scoreboard and it shows Wilson having completed his 2nd round too! I thought maybe his 62 was a qualifying round but I guess not.

Dude, that is an impressive round...USGA will turn it up after that. They'll be out there with leaf blowers fluffing the rough!

GO DAWGS for sure

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
