I recently purchased a used set of Callaway X22 tour irons 4-PW that I like. I am considering if it would be advantageous to change the Uniflex shafts our for a graphite shaft. My seven iron when hit solid goes about 140 maybe 145.

I know I could get more length with graphite, the question is how could it effect my ball striking and control?

I play graphite and I doubt that you would get enough extra distance to justify the expense. Mostly because of the extra length of the shaft you might lose a little accuracy, after I got use to them I found little difference in accuracy. Because of the difference in weight and feel I definitely would be careful if you have a quick tempo. The main advantage is less wear and tear on my aged hands, elbows etc.

my graphite shafts are the same length that my steel shafts were, and it has worked out great. it knocked about 20g off the weight, and has definitely added distance. with my SS (96), thats important. i havent lost accuracy either....in fact, i find i get moe control with the graphite.

I just picked up some new clubs that have graphite shafts and I love the light feel, makes the swing much easier I think. Will you pick up distance? Probably. But it might not be enough to make a difference for you.
