Is there a difference in yardage when hitting your 3 wood of the tee as opposed to hitting it out off the fairway or off the rough?

Thanks for your response. I was just wondering because the other day I played a 344 yd par 4 hole that doglegged left. Usually I use a utility 3 iron to dump it right in front of the 150 yd marker which is right at the turn. Well the other day I played, I topped the ball off the tee and it only went about 10 yds off the tee box into the rough just off the fairway. At this point I had a clear shot at the green by cutting across. I pulled my 3 wood and hit it pretty clean. It landed roughly 15 yds short of the green. If I can make up that 25 yds by hitting it off the tee, I may always go for the green. Maybe I can end up putting for eagle. Do you think it is possible to make up 25 yds?
