Well golf fans its time for a new season of golf which means I can finally dust off the sticks and rekindle my dreams of becoming a scratch golfer. First before I start laying out my plans for the 2010 season here is a little bit of information about me first.

Bio:
-19 years old college freshman at SJU (MN)
-played since I was 3
-won conference and was captain senior year
-currently playing to a 6.8 handicap
-work at a golf course as a cart valet for 4 years (including this summer)
-best round (77)
-best tournament round (78)

alright now that's out of the way let's get down to the details. Here are my main goals for this season.
-get down to a scratch golfer
-tryout for the college team this fall (I've got some work to do)
-play in at least five tournaments this summer
-play and learn from my buddy on the SJU team, he is the state champ and plays to a +2 so I am really hoping to learn from him this year
-take weekly lessons from my local club
-shoot a round of even par
-figure out my tee ball and average 10/14 DIFs a round
-average 9+ GIR
-work out, gain strength and flexibility
-stay positive, have fun
-play/ practice daily

well this is a huge year for me and I can't wait to get started. I played my first round on Thursday on a very difficult course and didn't score very well. I played from 6800 yards and the winds were brutal at 20-30 mph. I shot a dismal 91 with four penalties, and I really struggled with my tee ball. The putting was decent only complaint there was distance control on lag putts. I was happy with my iron play and I just need to get to the range more often to get my wedges in summer form. Looking back on the first round of the year I liked my putting and ball striking wiht my irons, but I need to get the driver fixed and work on course management because having four penatlies is going to kill anybody's chance at breaking 80. That's all for now, I will try and post all of my rounds and progress on this blog, hoping to learn how to become a sratch golfer and of course enjoy every step of the way.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
