Hit 25 balls each with half wedges, full wedge, 7i, hybrid, and driver.

Half wedges - Been having an issue where I flip under the ball, not so much hitting it fat, and coming up way short. Figured out that I was rotating my left shoulder under my chin basically on a steep plane then having to flip my hands as I rotated back through. Worked on keeping shoulders more level and hit a bunch of solid 50-60yd wedges.

Full wedges - I've lost distance with wedges so tried to work this out. Think I'm getting too steep and losing shoulder turn, had some success with making sure I had more turn and a little flatter plane. I know distance isn't what wedges are about, but I had a big distance gap caused by this change.

7i - Here again, felt like I was getting too steep and short in the backswing. Worked on pushing hands away from my body and flattening my swing. Hit good solid draws and picked up some yards, felt more like my swing from a month ago.

Hybrid - I only hit hybrid 1-3 times a round, but lately I've been topping them, or hitting a weak low fade. Worked on getting a full turn again, and making sure I didn't start downswing with my arms. Hit some really nice shots with the new Nickent 23*, I'd like to hit this off the tee a bit to get more use of it in the next few rounds.

Driver - I've been working through issues with trying to steer the ball, causing a bad over the top, weak fade causing swing. Again, worked on finishing the backswing. Also, setup a tee outside the clubface to encourage in to out path, and worked on staying connected. Very happy with the results, hit some nice little draws which is rare for me with the driver. Misses were still solid, hit a couple bombs that had a beautiful flight.

Finished with a little chipping, it was getting darks so only hit a few but confirmed that the rough is now thick enough that I really can't open up a 56* and hit chips with any consistency anymore. Fluffy lies let it slide right under the ball and come up short, so I worked on hitting these with a more square face and it worked well.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
