I have been waiting to take advantage of this opportunity for quite some time now. Last year at a charity golf tournament, a member at Spring Hill donated a threesome ( the fourth being the member) to his club for the golfers to bid on to donate to charity. As the silent auction started only a few people bid on the deal, and I looked at my dad and we decided to bid away. Long story short we got the round at Spring Hill, and we finaly got to play it this past Wednesday. The group consisted of my dad, a buddy from SJU who is on the golf team, the member, and I. First of all, for all you golfers who are unaware of this course its very excluseive and harder to get on than your average private club. We get to the course and we are assigned to our caddies (SWEET!) then we head off to the range to beat a few Pro V practice balls and putt around the slick greens. They are rolling at an 11.5 on the stimpmeter, and I soon realize that bein above the hole will not be an option today. The member shows up and after we are set we head to the first tee. I guess they don't have any tee times because there is only like 180 members so you can just show up and play. The course is just 20 minutes from the cities, and only on the second hole I feel like I'm in the north woods totally sucluded from all civilization. Standing on the first tee I felt my knees shaking as I felt like the Sunday leader at the Open because all eyes were on me. After shaking off my quick line drive with my hybrid I proceed to pitch to 18 feet for par, and look to my caddy for a read and drain the put for a great up and down. The course was spectacular with the trees, and lightning fast greens. It was easily my favorite track by miles over the rest. Every tee shot was elevated and had a beautiful look at the surrounding beauty of the wilderness. It was also probably the hardest course I have played as well with a slope of 144 and yardage of 6800 from the second to back tees. My buddy on the golf team played the tips which was 7100 yards with a nasty 148 slope. In the end I hit the ball well, and putted great thanks to the caddies, and I shot a respectable 85 at a seriuosly tough course. All in all the day was amazing and the course was in perfect condition, talking to the member he says some days only three groups play this majestic track. It really is another world out there as I here from the caddies that the members have to members at other courses to be considered at Spring Hill. He says they usually are members at Pebble Beach and Hazeltine and other cousres like that, and I hear that even MJ is a member at Spring Hill, but for one day I got to play at the course of my dreams and after the round I thanked the member and hoped that maybe this once in lifetime round would happen more than once.
