70% of the shots in golf come from inside 150 yards. So wedges and putters are realy the most important clubs in your bag. The older you get the harder it is to modify your swing speed for various situations so having multiple wedges is a key component. Also, you tend to hit your 3 and 4 irons about the same distance so drop the 3 iron and pickup a gap wedge. My set gives me the most flexability with a PW at 44deg, GW at 50deg, SW at 55deg and LW at 60deg. This puts me on the green from most distances inside of 150.

Not at all, you really don't need a 2 degree difference between each wedge. Try and space it out like a 4 or 6 degree difference because not only will you get more value out of your wedges you'll have more space in your bag for other clubs that could be necessary for your game such as a 5 wood or hybrids. But then again this is my opinion

Having played several rounds now with the 5 wedges I'd say that there are +'s and -'s. Too many options being one of the drawbacks, not having other clubs in the bag being another. On some courses this set up would be good, on others not so good. If you play a course where it is driver, wedge on a lot of holes, then add in the par 5's, then it makes sense, but if the course has a lot of long par 4's then it's better to have the long irons/hybrids in the bag.

As for the 2* difference, here is my yardage
PW: 110 (PW is 50*)
52*: 100
54*: 90
56*: 80
58*: 70
60*: 60

It is very important to be able to dial in these yardages on some courses and not rely on half or 3/4 wedge shots. However I may have to take a few out of the bag.

For the tougher longer courses I'll keep the 52 the 56(sand wedge) and 58 (great for chipping) and take out the 54,60, and even the PW as the 9 can be used to get similar yardage.

And I'll put back the 3W, 3iron hybrid, and 4 iron for the tougher long courses.

    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.
