i am thinking about upgrading my clubs. forgive me, i do not know much about shaft types or clubs. i fell in love with these after i hit them once.

i am almost set on steel but not sure which flex to get, however i am not opposed to graphite.

also what is so much better about the x20's?

I heard X-20 has no significant differences compared to X-18. Price wise, X-18 is cheaper today, but I love X-20's looks though. Anyway, if you have extra money to burn just get X-20 simply because it is newer model, has thinner sole, addresses and looked better, IMHO.

Regarding to which flex to get, they have this Uniflex Steel Shaft. They are good enough for now until you know what you want.

alright thanks. to be honest i liked the way the 18 looked when the ball was adressed better. it has a thicker top part, and that impressed me more than thinner. thanks for the info though

Yeah, I'd get the X-18. I don't think there's much difference and you'd probably save a couple hundred dollars on the deal. I've never been the guy who has to paid top dollar for the latest great thing.

that is what i was thinking. plus is a newer model going to improve my game, no! i just have to be comfortable with what i am using and i liked those clubs. thanks for the help guys.

my new clubs soon: callaway x18 steel!

I'm sure clones do the job just fine but I wouldn't get them either. If nothing else it could throw you off mentally. I wouldn't mind paying a little for a good set of irons since you most likely will have them for many years.

I play x-18 irons, and was playing x-14 for years before that. I'm a 7 hdcp and have been thinking about buying the X-20 tour since they have a little offset, but I just can't part with the forgiveness of the X-18's...

I'm with everyone else, STAY AWAY from knockoffs...they're junk IMHO.

The X-18's are a sweet club and still quite new. Hell, the X-14's are a great club. If you hit the X-18 well then I personally wouldn't look to screw that up

When I was shopping for irons (5 years ago) I was either going to get the X-14 or TA5 Gunmetal. Got a great deal on the gunmetal irons so got them. Haven't seen really any reason to change.

Out of curiousity, how much were they selling the X-18's for?

Congratulations on your new purchase!

Which shaft did you get? Did you get the Project X, if so which one 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0?

Not bad. Was that price with tax and everything? You could have snagged a new set of X-20's off of eBay with upgraded steel shafts for about $575 shipped. However, you don't get fitted of course.

    • I would like to amend my original comment on the new Maxfli irons. Yes, $800 for forged irons is a pretty good price and they do feel good BUT...I have since found out that $800 is only for off the shelf, standard issue clubs with standard lengths, lofts, lies and shafts. Any change made from stock results in huge up-charges so that the final price ends up pretty much the same as similar forged irons from any of the major manufacturers.
    • These were almost all included on the list of Clarifications or revised Model Local Rules released just a few days ago.  I'm pretty sure the first 3 are brand new MLRs (Moved/Wrong Place, Embedded Ball in someone else's pitch mark, Internal OB applies only to tee shot) that the PGA Tour is choosing to use.  The 16.1 Rule (relief near a Putting Green) was revised allowed a Committee to give relief for more than just Immoveable Obstructions, microphone holes would be classed as GUR (a hole made by the maintenance staff).  The replacement club rule was available before, the E-3 (Lift Clean and Place distance) could have been defined as "one scorecard" before, they're just a change in how the PGA choices. Here are the January 1 Clarifications and revised MLRs https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/clarifications-of-the-rules-of-golf.html#cp
