Hey everybody, I'm new here and am looking for help (and to give help when I can). These are a couple swing videos made about a month ago. My most frequent problems are a low hook with lower clubs (7 iron through driver get progressively worse and less predictable) and topping the ball. I've tried some stuff to fix it on my own but I'm not sure what I should actually be doing or if there are drills to help out.

I'm something between a 10-15 (maybe as high as 20 on a really inconsistent day) handicap right now because of inconsistency and unpredictability of my tee shots and longer irons, but I feel like I should be doing better =/.

(I'm not sure how the embed feature works on this forum, so if anyone could help with that, it'd be cool).

Looks like your problem that's causing your tops and thin hooks is a bit of a flip.  Look up "holding the wedge", and pay some close attention to your left wrist at the bottom of the swing.  You want to make sure your left wrist stays flat while releasing the club - that's not a lot to go on, but there's a ton of information about fixing a flip if you look for it.

Once you're holding the wedge and releasing the club properly, I would guess you're going to develop a slice, because your backswing is above plane, your club is "across the line" at the top, and your right elbow flares out at the start of the downswing.  Fixing your swing plane so your left arm is in line with your shoulders rather than well above them should be most of the fix at that point.

Thanks for the replies, that's why it's cool to have other people look at your swing, you guys noticed stuff I didn't :). I am definitely casting the club a bit; I haven't taken a lesson in three years or more so my swing's probably full of bad habits by now, but that one should be relatively easy to fix. The left arm lower is going to be harder to fix, but I'll work on that -- I did notice that my left arm was really high on the swing plane and that probably messes stuff up. Then again, people like Fred Couples have a similar high swing plane and they manage, so who knows.

I'll work on it and post sometime in the future probably.

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
