The new ones are either forged from 1025 carbon steel or 410 SS.  The bigger question might be... are the form forged, or drop forged?  The spec sheet says "A six step, precision forging process.....", so my guess is the current ones are drop forged.

But since you say "old school", I take it they are an older set?  If so, I would say they are most likely drop forged also.

Drop forging: A large press that "drops" onto the raw heated billet of steel, pounding it into the basic shape of the dies that are in the drop press.

Form forging: Starting with a piece of molten material that is cast into the basic shape, then forged by either a drop forge press, or a hydraulic press.
