Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't Simpson get a HUGE break on 16?

I think it was 16. I believe he hit a bad drive into the deep right rough. Luckily for him, his ball landed near some "wire" so he was allow to drop the ball into the first cut. This turned a bogey (or worse) into a par...

Tour pros do get afforded breaks when playing a PGA Tour event that if you or I were playing, would not have the opportunity to receive. Such as the case of the wires, in which he received relief from.

You'll also see guys fire their approaches into the stands behind or around greens, in order to receive a drop closer to the green. Rather than where their shots would have ended up for them, if the stands were not there. It happens.

Is it a break? Yes.

Did it help him in the end? Yes.

Though if it would have happened in round one, not the final round. Would we anyone said anything about it? Probably not.

It happened down the stretch when everything was on the line. This wasn't a case where he knew he could get relief so it was "ok to miss". He his a terrible drive, on that could/perhaps should have cost him the tournament and got huge break, imo. I feel like this is worth mentioning, I haven't heard a PEEP from anyone regarding this.

Eh...he also had an unlucky break om 18 where his ball settled in a hole next to the green.  Such is golf,

Driver:  Callaway Diablo Octane 9.5*
3W:  Callaway GBB II 12.5*, 5W:  Callaway Diablo 18* Neutral
3H:  Callaway Razr X, 4H:  Callaway Razr X

GW:  Callaway X Tour 54*, SW:  Callaway X Tour 58*
Putter:  Callaway ITrax, Scotty Cameron Studio Design 2, Ping Anser 4

The reason you don't hear a peep about it is that it is irrelevent.  Sometimes the rules of golf benefit a player, rather than punish.  He followed the rules, and they helped him out of a tough situation, so what?
