My typical ball flight is: Used to slice driver bad now it's pretty straight. If not straight I push it

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Still hate that slice but I think I beat it

Hey Kasch, I am not very good at analyzing swings and have my own huge issues, so take it for a grain of salt!  That said, the 1 thing I can see is how far off the ball your hips appear to sway in your backswing.  I was always taught to imagine my spine was staked into the ground like a pole.  You want to rotate around a pole and try to maintain that spine angle.

unfortunately, I do not have any constructive criticism on your swing as Im a newbie myself. However, I noticed that you said you used to have a bad slice, I am wondering what are some of the techniques you used to fix it?

I am no where near good at this game, but there are a couple things that just stick right out to me. The main thing is that your back swing is faster than your swing, which doesn't do much in the way of going solidly through the ball. Slow your backswing down, it doesn't help to do that part quickly. Also, I think you might have some plane issues. It seems like your are having to lift the club up quite a bit in your backswing, rather than allowing the club to effortlessly float up by rotating it with your shoulders. I have a hard time explaining that second part but my instructor pointed it out in my lesson today and I immediately hit some flush shots as soon as I started working on this.

I have a bad slice myself.

I had a revelation one day while swinging the club in my backyard about what an inside to outside swing is. I knew you are supposed to swing in to out but the concept didn't click for me. When I first started playing I had a bad slice and was always trying to over correct it by aiming left etc. As part of this process I was trying to hit the ball left. Even when I was able to close or square the club face on contact I was still slicing because the club was striking the ball from right to left (I'm right handed). This was causing a clockwise spin on the ball resulting in the slice. I could tell I had a square club face at impact because the ball went straight for 150 yds or so before diving to the right. Now I actually picture myself striking the ball from left to right. One would think the ball would go right but if the club face is square it usually goes straight for me. I do sometimes push it right but in those worst case times I'm usually playing from the right side of the fairway or the near right rough. I used to play my shots from the fairway of the hole to the right. When I realized what an in to out swing was I started hitting 90% of them straight almost immediately. My goal now is to close the club face slightly more while swinging in to out in order to get a draw.

The few times I see my slice reappear I remind myself to slow down my swing and try to keep my upper right arm connected to my body/hip. Starting my swing by turning my left hip helps keep my swing inside to out. My major problem now is that while my driver is straight all the stuff I did to fight my slice has caused me to pull or hook my irons.


Your head movement is pretty busy.  I'm no teacher or even a low handicapper, but if there are just a handful of hard and fast rules in maintaining a solid swing, one of them is keeping the head still.  Another poster mentioned that your swing is "too fast", or at least the backswing or something like that.  You might want to try not accelerating your swing so fast from the approach.  I mean, if you force any part of your body to move from a dead position to "as fast as possible", it's going to be hard to keep your head still, balance in check, and eye on the ball.

    • Anyone can cherry pick a green shape to fit their narrative.  Now do the same thing but for this green that has an extremely sloped hill short, so good chance to roll back to the water, and mounds long that kick long shots OB. It's like a 175yd tee shot too.    Or this one. Where the approach shot is from 200+ yds with a severe slope towards the water and very tightly mowed sloped runoff behind the green.  
    • In a normal 30x20 green, a left/rigth 15 yard miss is going to be missing the green, probably in the bunker. A short/long 15 yards miss is still going to be in the green. Scoring average is always going to be lower if you have 100% GIR. Unbeatable.  I love this tool I created. Is an spreedsheets that calculate the scoring average of a dispersion in a certain green with the flag you want.   I set both dispersions in order to score as low as they can in this Par 3 from 150 yards, in this case avoiding going into the water.   Option 1: Scoring average: 2.96  GIR: 59%   Option 2: Scoring average: 2.79   GIR: 97%
    • He won the Zozo after that to "tie" Sam Snead. But… yeah.
    • 3 years ago I made a Driver fitting. Started with my on course speed and was almost 150 ball speed. I tested a lot of drivers and went after them with all I had reaching 160 ball speed.  In the last 3 years I improved my swing and now my on course speed is around 158 but no matter how much I force the issue I still cannot hit the ball faster than 160. Not even when I hit the ball perfectly in the middle and gave it all I have, the numbers are never more than 160.. 161. Club speed also is stuck on the same number. On the other hand for every other club in the bag I also started hitting it farther with the new swing on course but I'm able to gain 6..7 miles of ball speed if I go after them. As an example, I'm around 121 ball speed with my 6 iron but I can muscle it to 128 without much trouble and also club speed jumps 4..5 miles.  Any ideas?    
    • But if you clubbed down then the short one is going to be even shorter (even after it rolls forward a bit)  It's not like a shot that was 20yds short is going to magically roll right next to the hole man.
