I'm looking at getting new clubs and I'm not sure if I should get regular flex, stiff, etc...etc...etc...

So what is the best way to know which to get? I'm sure heading to a golf store would be the best, but the closest that would be able to tell me is at least 30 mins away. So is there a way to do this on my own? Would it help if I posted a video of my swing?

Or do I need to suck it up and make the trip to a professional golf store

I bet we could help you out and give you a pretty legit answer if you just let us know a little about you and your swing. Age, swing speed, what's your current driver flex and how well do you hit it.. 8 iron distance/flex

You're probably an average hitter like most and will be comfortable with regular.

The problem is that I don't know my swing speed. When I was at Dick's Sporting Goods the computer read the club head swing and it went everywhere from 48 to 68 mph(and possibly more, to honest I wasn't paying that close of attention). I was hitting 7 irons with steel shafts.

My age is 31, I am fairly strong (for my height of 5'5") and I'll have to get back to you on the driver flex and 8 iron flex.

I want to say that I hit my 8 iron around 150 yards.

Umm... even 68 mph is pretty damned pitiful, even with the 8 iron. There's no way you hit the 8 iron 150 yards with that speed but it's more likely your yardage is closer to right than the monitor. I'd say you're swinging more like 80-85mph with the 8 iron, around 85-90 with the 5 iron which is what most companies use as a baseline.

That puts you in a stiff in all likelihood. Possibly even an X flex, but it depends on tempo, shaft weight, etc. It's unlikely you need an X though. Being that you're a midget, it's likely you'd start with a stiff. Don't go back to Dick's, their LM is broken and the employee clearly didn't notice. Get fitted somewhere else.

I'd say try some online fitting stuff through Ping, Titleist, Cobra etc.  Be really REALLY honest about your distances and you should get in the ball park.  These don't take into account tempo, lag, lie angles and such like a true dynamic fitting would.  They should get you a general consensus.  If you are fitting for a driver it is obviously more complicated.  Id also try some demo clubs at a local range or course.  You will know what feels right and what launches the best for you within a large bucket's time.  And if you hit an 8 iron 150 consistently you probably want stiff flex.  One manufacturer's regular is another's stiff.....especially when you get into the "exotic" shafts.
