Sorry if there are many other threads about this, I did a quick search and couldn't really find any that helped me.

I just want the cheapest set that isn't a complete waste of money, and I will replace the clubs gradually with good clubs starting about a year from now after I've played a bit. I played 9 last weekend and I went 19 over par, so I'm a real beginner.

The best sellers on Amazon and Google Shopping are this top flite set and this wilson set . The Top Flite one ismade by Callaway and is around $200. The wilson one is around $250. Are those ok or should I look for something else?

I've seen some saying that it's better to find a good set of used clubs, but I don't have a clue how to identify good used clubs. I checked ebay and Atlanta craigslist and realized I have no idea what to look for. I'd love some help here, but I'm just looking to spend up to $300 including a bag...

Thanks!

I started out with clubs from Pinemeadowgolf.com (gigagolf.com is another good site, I have tried clubs from them as well).  I think I got a complete set including hybrids and driver for around $250.  They make are really great quality for the price, better than your typical boxed set for around the same price range.  I still use and like both the Hybrids two years later.  Looking back they were the perfect choice for my first set since I replaced them about a year later and was not out that much money.

Another option is to look for some used clubs in the classified section of different golf forums.

Believe it or not but you may be able to find a local club maker that could custom fit a set of composites that cost less than $300

Thanks darkhunter I'll definitely look into that. Wow onesome that would be pretty incredible. How would I go about finding someone who could do that? I'm in Atlanta.
