I've been Playing Golf for: Just Started

My current handicap index or average score is: Unknown

My typical ball flight is: Varies

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Too much spin from a down angle swing/Slice

I need tips on drills/practice to help keep my hands inside. I know I cast my hands at the top of my downswing which causes me to slow my shoulder/hip rotation which forces me to be entirely neutral at the point of contact. This leads to inconsistency in my swing, especially with my driver. I was a college baseball player so unfortunately I've been able to made adjustments to get the correct trajectory and still hit the ball straight but its not terribly consistent. In the video I hit a low flight range ball fairly straight on a good trajectory about 260 yards with an old R5 Driver. Most people would tell me to be happy with that but I know I am leaving a lot of yards in the tank. Any tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

One thing to look at is your "early extension". Your lower body lunges towards the ball early on the downswing, causing you to stand up to make room for the club, which forces the club down on a steeper plane. If you look at most good golfers, they maintain their "tush line" throughout the downswing, giving themselves room to swing the club towards the target close to the original shaft plane.

I appreciate the help. I found the Merry Go Round drill on the TPI website which is perfect for me. Spent the last twenty years of my life trying to have square level shoulders in baseball.

Wow nice swing for someone just starting out. I too used to play baseball I see a lot of the same stuff I'm working on. It looks to me like you are swinging too much with your arms. This is one thing that causes the over the top motion you are talking about. I don't know of any drills specifically, but I'm sure there are videos on youtube. I try to feel like my hip slide initiates the downswing and that causes my arms to drop. Keep it up!

Anybody have any drills to help keep my hands further inside. When I slow down video of tour guys' swings I can see that there is very little seperation between their body and their hands at contact. I can see that I have a gap of daylight between my body and hands. Trying to figure out how to correct that.
