I'm an avid reader of all things golf, I especially love to do research on equipment because I'm a junkie just like the rest of you. Started out in golf in 1999 with clubs I bought through classified ads or store closeouts. Good stuff though, Titleist and Callaway mostly, all with stiff shafts.

Two years ago wanted to completely re-tool. Fitting and launch monitors being the new rage, I decided I needed to get fit before re-tooling. If you've ever noticed in Golf Digest, they seem to recommend that we all play 23* drivers and several hybrids all with senior flex low-kick shafts. My fitter subscribed to this theory - "Everybody needs more loft and more flexible shafts!" Anyway, I bought into and now I have a bag full of stuff that I can't play, or can't control anyway. Just wondering if there are any more victim's out there and what your experiences are.

I subscribe to Golf Digest and I am not sure they go quite that far. I don't recall ever reading the quote you used above, or them recommending 23 degree drivers, perhaps I missed that issue

They do however, definitely like the hybrids. I've read articles that recommend replacing the 3, 4, 5 and even 6 iron with hybrids. That's a little extreme. With that said, you have to take anything you read with a grain of salt and keep in mind that there are a lot of people reading that magazine who could really benefit from a bag full of hybrids and game improvement clubs. I feel your pain, I've certainly been a "victim" of buying something based on buzz but I'm not about to blame Golf Digest for my purchases. Afterall, we're all junkies I'd recommend going to your local pro, or golf shop and get fitted for a new set of sticks. It seems you've got a lot of trade in value Get someone you trust and not someone just trying to sell something that'll net them a nice commission. Good luck!

    • If you’ve been playing over sixty years that means you’re not as young as you used to be, welcome to the club. Most people I play with are 70+ and we all seem to have issues. Couple of the guys have had cancer, heart issues and strokes but still doing the best they can. But not what they used to. Some are where they probably should just play nine holes because at about fifteen they are starting to struggle quite a bit. My scores are creeping up each year, don’t like it but it’s better than sitting in the recliner. Good luck.
