I currently use Titleist AP2 (710) irons.  They are near the end of their life & I have the itch for a new set of irons.

I've read a lot about the "soft" feel of the Mizuno MP64s. I've had a couple of sessions at the range with an MP64 (6 iron) & really wanted to like them.  If they had been as good as all the reviews suggest I would probably have a set on the way from Mizuno right now.

Problem is, they felt ok, but certainly no better than my current AP2's.  Ball flight with the MP64s was a little better (lower) and I could definitely rely on a nice little draw, but overall the AP2s still felt better to me.  The flushed shots with the MP64s did not feel any different to the AP2s.  Mishits with MP64s definitely punished more than AP2s (not entirely a bad thing in my book).  The MP64s did look gorgeous at address!

Set up for the MP64 was the same as my AP2s - 2 deg upright & DGS300.

Would be nice if I could have a hit off the turf to really see what the MP64s are like, but in the absence of that I'm struggling to see any improved feel in the MP64s over the AP2s.

Anyone out there made the switch to MP-64s (from any other decent irons) & could you feel the difference?  Did it take a while to get used to the MP64s?

PS I don't want this to be a Titleist fanboy vs Mizuno fanboy thread, just want the info.

I use to have titleist blades, but not the ap versions. after that i went with the TW stamped (tiger woods actual tour irons) nike forged blades and i loved them. I loved them until i tried my friends mizuno blades. so i purchased the mizuno blades immediately after. i love them so much. japan is the king of forged (samuri swords). i pretty much get new irons every 2-3 years. I suggest you go with the club that you like, and don't worry about the brand. Different people look for different things. people want feel, people want distance, people want looks, etc... There are several options available to you, and you need to find the one that gives you the most confidence. I would hit dunlop clubs if i feel more confidence in my game ;)

    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
    • Yeah, I think I misread that part. I read "in front of" and kinda skipped the rest.
    • We just completed our winter league (Jan 1 - April 30)  Our scoring was simple.  We used the 18 birdies app.  You get 1 point for every member of the league you beat head to head in an 18 hole round (no handicap).  You also get a point for completing the round.  Therefore 4 members play a round- winner of the round gets 4 points, runner-up gets 3, third gets 2, and last gets 1.  Points accumulate throughout the season.  You can play as many times as you want. Our winner accumulated 110 points while second was 102 and third was 97.  We had a total of 16 members in the league.  No issues whatsoever.  All about fun.
    • I had the D-9's a while back, thought the stock Wilson grips were rubbish.  I put Pure grips on them. Pure is now out of business but available on Golfworks.  Currently some colors in stock as of today. PURE Wrap Golf Grips - The GolfWorks PURE Golf's tackiest grip, the Wrap features a perforated wrap design and is ideal for golfers that prefer a slightly softer, more muted feel at impact.
