Having watched my average driver distance reduced from around 230-240 yds ten years ago to barely 200 yds

now days , I am ( of course ) very concerned about trying to maintain or regain at least SOME of the former

length !

I'm using a routine Jaacob Bowden has given me ( as well as the drills that Tour Tempo teaches ) and my swing speed on the radar has improved considerably , but on the course I haven't seen much improvement yet.

I'm also doing PureStirke 5SK work also , and think maybe I'm trying to work from opposite ends of the spectrum as far as my hoped for improvement goes .

Does anyone have ideas or suggestions how I might better go about this self-improvement project ?

Thanks ,

Michael

Flexibility and core work.

This. If you saw my swing, it doesn't look like I'm swinging all that fast. I've learned to use my core and shift my weight. Club head speed is 91-92 mph with a 6 iron which I'm told is up there.

This and just making sure you are hitting up on the ball in the middle of the face with a close face to path relationship.

Have you taken your swing speed radar to the course? It's possible that you're swinging faster, but poor ballstriking is limiting your distance. Or, as you say, you're spreading your concentration too thinly across Jaacob's stuff and your 5SK lessons and your clubhead speed is dropping when you try to put a ball in play. Either way, taking the radar out on the course should give you some clues as to what's happening.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
