How's it going everyone? I've been playing for 6 going on 7 years. Was down to an 8 handicap back in high school when i was playing everyday. Took off for about a year and the handicaps slowly made its way up to an 11. Got fitted for these irons about a week ago and swing speed was consistently 93-94mph with a 6 iron. Still a little inconsistent ballstriking so i figured I'd throw up a video and get some help. Just filmed a few 7 iron swings. The main thing I noticed was a lack of shoulder rotation? Shoulders stop turning around 45 degrees by the looks of it. My main miss for the past few years has been a slight push and I've never really been able to fix it.

Hi, welcome to the site. Swing looks a little "armsy" and yes I agree with the lack of shoulder rotation. Check out this video and work on turning the hips and torso more.

Thank you for that video @mvmac. Hopefully the lack of shoulder rotation is due to a little offseason rust. I've never had the problem before, and lately it seems like I've been pulling a lot of shots as opposed to my normal push. Will definitely give that a shot and put another video up soon. Weathers been pretty nasty so we will see next time I get out.

From what I can see too much head movement on the backswing, as well as alot more early of a release than there should be. Ballstriking has been slightly inconsistent lately. Mainly a 15-20 yard hook with the longer irons and driver. Nothing to get me in too much trouble but more of a right to left than I'm looking for to be my normal shot shape.

Maybe watch that video again. Turn those feet out, make sure the knees aren't rotated inward. Will make it easier to turn more and turn steeper. Left shoulder can go down, right can stretch up.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
