When you play match play do you use any gamesmanship? I personally love to get into my opponents head.

Some of my favorites are
1. On short par 4s let you opponent outdrive you to get on the green first.
2.walking fast and getting to your ball early an impatiently look at them when they're away
3.be generous giving putts early then make them hole out on the final holes
4.If your opponent slices his drive say something like ''get left'' even though you obviously don't mean it.

Question 2 On a par five your opponent is down 2 and puts his second shot in a water hazard guarding the green. You can get there in two with a decent five wood. Do you go for it or lay up?

1. Eh, I wouldnt let his game dictate mine that much. 2. You are only causing stress upon yourself. 3. This one I agree with. But if you're playing against solid players the only putts in the long gimme range should be for birdies. 4. Again, I don't like to get into my opponents game this much, and if somebody else does this against me, it really makes me think less of them. And on laying up....I would lay up usually if its a small green over water and I'm 2up because then I'm hitting a short 3rd shot, while my opponent is hitting a short 4th shot. No reason to take the risk when the odds are for you. This of course is just my opinion, and I went 4-8 in matchplay this year in the michigan publinx, and only won one match at the state matchplay, so not a great record.

you def. go for it. Oh and I love gamesman ship. It's the nuts. You can drive someone crazy with little comments you drop throughout your round. It might not be ethical but it sure is effective.

As I said in another thread, any effort to "game" your opponent usually has a bad effect on your own game and is thus completely pointless.

Why change your natural rhythm?

I've seen plenty of people give some putts early and then lose because they don't get the chance to make them hole them later. Duh. The guys we play against aren't pros - they're not automatic from four feet.

I generally don't talk to my opponents and I'd never be rude on purpose.
