OK, here is the history. I have been out of the game for 5 years. I started back 10 weeks ago and I am playing to a 7.4. I used to play to a 5 and I am trying to get there. I just replaced my 975D with a Calloway BB 454 9* with the Aldila NV65 stiff shaft. I can't believe the difference. While it is slightly longer, it is so forgiving. In my third round with it, I was sitting in great shape after every tee shot. So now I am thinking, I should replace my Taylor Made Tour Spoon with something a little more current that would compliment the BB. I have looked at the Calloway line, but I am not sure what is what. I would like a similar shaft and 14-15 degrees of loft but nothing that is going to have too high of a trajectory. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Add on:

The tour spoon is from the burner bubble line and has a HM35 in it. It feels so heavy (and small) next to the BB, so I would like something that would be more similar to the 454.

The Callaway X fairway wood, with the shallow face, seems to be the one preferred by lower handicap golfers. It has a Fujikura shaft, standard. You might also try out Cobra's 2007 F Speed and Pro series fairway woods. I know several players in your handicap range who use them to great success. Good luck.

Thanks, I looked at the X as a definite option.

Another thought occurred to me: you might check out the Callaway Pre Owned website. They sell ( obviously) preowned clubs. The reason I suggest this is that they may have the matching 3 wood to your driver ( both of which are now discontinued ). The site is easy to navigate, and I've heard good reports from those who've ordered from them. I don't know how to post a link to them, but you can get there by typing Callaway Preowned into your search engine.

I picked up the 07 Big Bertha 3 wood not quite 6 weeks ago. It comes standard with a Fujikura shaft as well. I play it just left of center in my stance and get a nice boring trajectory. Distance is nearly as long as my driver. Here is a link to the CallawayGolf.com site for it .

Update:
OK, I picked up a Calloway X Tour 15* with the Tour Platform Stiff shaft. It has a smaller head than most three woods but it is bigger than the spoon. I hit it off the deck pretty good at the range, but not so great off the tee. Maybe I need to really tee it low.

Well, I just tried the Titleist 906F4 3 wood, 15.5 degrees ( Erik reviewed the club a couple of weeks ago on this website and the review is excellent and spot on ), and I have to say it is very sweet. So sweet, in fact, that I have bought one and it may replace my 16 degree hybrid. If you haven't pulled the trigger, give the Titleist a try.

Thanks for the tip. I actually was smoking the X at the range on the second trip. The thing is hot! Great off the fairway and off a really low tee.
