Hello,

i am a decent golfer, i shoot mid-high 80's on an average day.

my current set of irons are the nickent 3dx hybrid irons.
however, They look absolutly HUGE at address, and they feel large, witch i dislike quite alot.

so, i guess my generaly question is, what are some irons that have cavity back forgivness, but without the look.

a few factors,
-i hate hybrids
-i dont really work the ball
-i really want to gain some distance.

irons i am looking at-
Taylor made r7's
taylor made rac's oc or lt
titlist 735 cm's
clevland cg4's
talyor made r7 draws
cobra s9's
titliest 775 cb's

Any help/suggestions you guys have as to a new set would be greatly appreciated.

note-i would like to keep it somewehere close to cheap, but if not, i will pick a set up used, or from my coach.

thanks.
brian.

OK, not exactly the cheap option but worth adding the Mizuno's MP-57's to your list. Had a look at them the other day in the local golf store and they look quite nice. They are basically cavity backed forged blades. I didn't hit them but from what the guys were saying they are quite forgiving but look like a muscle back at address which is what you are looking for.

The 57's look real nice. I got my Mizuno MX-25's in March and absolutely love them. I tried all those Irons on your list (except titliest 775 cb's) before I bought the 25's and none of them had the same feel.

I've read that the MX-25's lose distance, but I've gained distance from the TM CGB's I had before.

If your handicap is in the 20s, I would suggest, of those you mentioned, the Titleist 775cb irons. They're forgiving, relatively small compared to other game improvement irons and they're forged, for what that's worth. Also, if price is a consideration ( and even if price is not a consideration -- although they look like game improvement modern irons ), I would consider the Cobra FPs. I hit some shots with them the other day, and they are sweet. Good luck.

    • Day 105: mirror work today. Focused on not looping my hands at the top of the swing. Straight down.
    • Still working on the backswing a bit. Hand still gets away from the body, out towards the ball, and at A2 the club wants to roll over and get flat at A3. It's just very difficult to shallow from that position like I want. Which makes my downswing work impossible.  Backswing I have been playing around with the left leg straightening to start the backswing. It's like, a slight shove of the hips right with the left leg. Then just keep the flex in the right knee as I turn into it. I kind of like it. I never had a good swing trigger. It helps keep my left knee extended.  Yea, definitely feeling the hand path is traveling down the feet line, and straight up. A little bit of wrist rotation, and a lot more hinge sooner in the right wrist and elbow. I am trying to get the feeling that the arm hinging up then is the cause for the right shoulder to retract to finish the backswing. Club feels much more vertical at A3. I am trying to have my wrist fully hinged by then.  Feel the club and arms stop at A3.5 (my A4). If my arm collapses late, then I turn into that and I am pretty much screwed. The club and arms kind of have a floaty feeling, where they are just suspended in air for a bit, then drop.  Downswing I have been trying to think of a good visual for this mentally. I like the idea of my hands taking a wide arc to my right pocket, or I am taking the back of the hosel and trying to hit the ground behind my right foot.    Left knee stuff, just sooner.
