Mike Weir earned his 1st win in 3 years at the fyrs electronics open today. He hit some great iron shots in difficult conditions.. most importantly its a confidence booster for him and a step in the right direction for next year.

I realize its a fall finish event so it doesnt mean much but a win is a win. And with guys like Mickelson, Baddely, O'hair, Duval, Ames, and plenty of others.. it was a pretty decent field.

Anyone else watch this?

I watched day 3. I just never had the time, or never wanted to make time for this event.

But congrats to Weir!

I watched a lot of Saturday and all of Sunday's action. It was great to see Weir in the winner's circle again. He's jumped up to 30th in the world and 32nd (I'm pretty sure) on the money list. Hopefully he continues to build on this confidence as he continues to groove is swing changes. It will be great to see him contend in some of the more prestigious events again.

I was most glad because of all of the people in Canada who had written him off and were calling for Ames to be on the President's Cup team. I know Ames is a transplanted Canadian, but I can't stand him. Seems very arrogant to me, the mirror of Weir who is all class.

It is great to see Mike Weir in the winners circle again. He is such a skilled player that he should be there more often. My only disappointment is that the seasons over and Mike might not be able to carry this confidence till next season.

Mike Weir won? The PGA is still playing golf? Ok, I'm kidding. It was a nice win for him and he seems to be getting his game back (he had some nice tournaments the second half of the year). I'm just having a tough time getting into this fall finish at all. Season pretty much ended with the BMW.

Kinda funny you threw Duval's name in there when referring to the field being decent.

A names, a name. You expect duval to contend because of what hes done. It doesnt always work out that way. Notice i didnt mention Daly though =/.

Actually, no I don't. When was the last time he was in contention?

LOL, yeah. Wasted talent. He's just getting older and more out of shape...

Anyways, that was a good tourament for your boy Weir. That with his second half, the way he played Tiger head to head and the fact he's getting used to his swing changes I think he's in for a good year in 2008.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
