My wife and I are coming from the UK to at end of February to play Sawgrass...

is it as good as they say? We will be booked on the Stadium and Valley courses...is there any where else nearby that we MUST play?

What is the local area like to visit?

i've played sawgrass' stadium course twice. it is as great as they say; even better now after the tweaking that dye did a year ago or so. without question, you'll remember 17 forever. you may also remember how difficult it was. and finally, you'll likely remember how expensive it was. but you won't regret it.

as for other courses in the area. you ask the question with emphasis on "MUST" play. in my opinion, there is not another course that you MUST play. there are several, maybe dozens of, other good, even very good courses such as the courses at the world golf village in st. augustine. you'll love the valley course as well, very nice. the whole sawgrass complex is amazing.

regarding "things to do", there's not much other than the golf hall of fame, again, found at the world golf village. so if you're decision is go site-seeting or play another round or two of golf, i'd definitely choose golf and probably would send you to world golf village where you could play a couple good courses and hit the hall of fame. palencia golf club is probably my favorite that i've played outside of the sawgrass complex. and don't get talked into playing "old" sawgrass across the street from the stadium/valley courses, not worth the 1 minute drive.

i believe we have some posters from the area, so they should be able to help out even more....

these are a few of the courses i've played in the area:

Palencia Golf Club St. Augustine, Florida
TPC Sawgrass - Stadium, Valley, OldPonte Vedra, Florida
Cimarrone Golf Club Jacksonville, Florida

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
