I have had two very good shots both at the same hole. Hole 7 of our course is a par 5 that starts off with an elevated tee box and then goes uphill from 275 yards and in. I hit my drive to the 250 mark and then chunked my next shot from the uphill lie 100 yards. I am now 150 yards uphill with the pin in the back so I am playing this for about 175. I hit a 5 wood smoothly and I see it go over the green and bounce on the hill behind the green. I walk up to the green and check behind the hill and no ball, I check left of the hill and no ball. Finally I say to myself that I will walk by the hole and sure enough the ball is in for my second eagle. Next morning the same pin placement I am about 125 yards from the hole and put my shot off the same bank to about 2 feet and hole it for birdie. I asked the guys to keep the pin placement there all the time but they keep insisting on changing it.

The two things that I have wanted forever have been mentioned. Give me Phil in the game and please give me a course creator. I remember years ago that Jack Nicklaus had a PC game that allowed you to create your own courses. Creating the course was as fun as playing the game. I know I could and would spend hours and days on end creating my home course and some other that I have played often.

Anyone want to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 over Xbox Live?
billinga replied to ControlJunkie's topic in Golf Talk
My xBOX gametag is billinga. I will be picking up the game at some point this week. -
If golf is way cheaper than poker, you are playing poker all wrong. My golf addiction has limited my poker play severely which is costing me money every week since I am a ton better at poker than I am at golf.

I am so spoiled now I think 4.5 hours is much too long for a round. Most of my rounds are done in 3.5 or less. It would have to be Pebble Beach for me to sit through a 6 hour round.

Does your home course have fairway bunkers?
billinga replied to Phil McGleno's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I thought they were going to name that bunker after myself since I am in it so often. Every time I try to aim a little more right I then pull it even more severely right. The last three rounds though I have missed it. -

billinga replied to Phil McGleno's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
We have them but they are few in number. The two that I get into all the time are on hole 5 which has a fairway bunker that is 100 yards long (no I am not kidding). It runs down the left side of the hole and I am in there probably 50% of the rounds I play. The second one is across a creek on hole 7 which is a par 5. It is a small one but appears strategically placed to screw me. -
I think electric carts are the way to go as well. I do not really care about the custom designs, but give me better functionality. I would like comfortable seats and backs. A sensor that stops the cart if your foot is out. Make the back of these where the club storage is wider and deeper. Anyone who has tried to put two of the Bag Boy revolving bags would know how much that is needed. Cellphone storage is a great idea. I am trying to campaign for our club to put golf ball and golf club cleaners on every cart. Our carts have protection for your clubs in the rain but they do not have cleaners. That does not make any sense to me.

That guy needs to lighten up. So someone is a little bit different than me, what is the big deal? I would hate to live in that gray world where everyone has to look the same. It is not like he is trying to wear cutoff jeans and a tank top to an event. A funny thing though happened a couple of weeks ago when I was watching golf. I was half paying attention when my wife commented, "there is a girl playing golf with the men?". I told her that it has happened before, but to my knowledge it is not happening this week. She insisted that she saw a girl playing and then showed me when "she" showed up again. Sure enough it was our boy Fowler dressed all in pink. Not a color that I can pull off, but good for him.

How often do you go and how much time do you spend at a driving range?
billinga replied to BrushCaddy's topic in Golf Talk
I go to the range at least a couple times a week at our club and it is usually for an hour. My 11 year old son gets mad at me if we do not practice for at least an hour before every round that we play. He likes to work on every aspect of his game before playing. We usually will warm up with some short irons, then work towards drives, then go hit pitches and bunkers before putting. -

Anybody played Shingle Creek in Orlando?
billinga replied to jetsknicks1's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I actually played Shingle Creek this week since I was at a conference in town. I was very impressed by the course and it was in awesome condition. The service there was great and it did not hurt that I shot my best front 9 ever (a 44 thanks to a chip in for birdie on 9) though I screwed it up with a 51 on the back. -
I have heard many cool reception to the Move with this game. I think to be fair you need to give it a couple of releases before you expect it to be as good as the Wii version with the swing accuracy. The same could be said for xBox if/when they come out with a Kinect version.

I am glad to hear that you guys like it. My son and I love playing with it. Our lowest rounds now are one under par. You really do need to think about course management and figure out good bail out options on some of the holes. Let me know when you beat one under.

What do you think of this golf grip for curing the "Hole in the glove"
billinga replied to jfrain2004's topic in Golf Talk
What is interesting is that if you watch the Golf Academy that Jack Nicklaus does he will tell you the exact opposite. He said that he wanted it more in his palm instead of his fingers. -
I played today in cold damp conditions (I just had to once the snow finally melted). I tied for my lowest round ever with a 93. I made the most out of the four par 3s as I played those four holes in just one over par. I did not chip well nor did I putt well. Soon I will have lessons on my short game as I strive to break 90.

Today my club is still closed due to the snow that we had from last week so I plugged in the Wii again. Shot a 69 at Celtic Manor which was the first time I shot a round below par using the expert swing mode. Now if I can get a few days of sun in a row I can take my game back out to the real course.

I am part of a group that is staying at the Legends courses for a Thursday-Sunday trip at the end of April. We got three nights stay, five rounds of golf, breakfast & lunch + two drink tickets each day for $500. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

While I would never recommend stealing (unless it is in baseball or poker) you will have fun with it.

I watched the first episode this morning to see whether or not I would watch it at all or possibly watch it with my son. I decided on the latter. My son is a good kid who has life eaaaaaaaaaaassssy. We are blessed by the fact that I have an excellent job and he lives what I would consider a fantastic life for a kid. He is also addicted to golf and pretty darn good at it. We play at the club I live at all the time and it is great sharing a hobby with him. I try to make both of my kids understand how much God has blessed us. We take them to feed the homeless, they work with us on fundraisers for different charities etc. I think by watching this show he can learn some valuable lessons like how fragile life is, not to take things for granted, work hard and work smart to get where you want, etc. I do believe that we have nowhere even close to the real story here, but I can tell you as well that I know someone who was living with a girl, an argument escalated, and the police were involved and he had to leave even though he did not have anywhere to go. Some friends and family took him in for periods at a time, but who knows if this guy had that opportunity. We did learn that his mother passed away, not sure about other family. Maybe it will be addressed in future episodes.

While I can afford to get a setup like I see some of the people on this forum have done, getting the CFO (wife) approval for more golf stuff is hard to do. My solution? Tiger Woods 2011 and a chicken stick (from badchicken.com). Now I do not work for either company, but here are my thoughts... With the chicken stick and TW set to tour swing expert mode this game is hard. I was a 36 handicap when I bought this game and for the first 5 rounds or so I could not break 100. It took me 25 rounds to break an 80 and I have never broken par (though I did shoot par once). Want to make it even more realistic? Create a golfer and make his stats similar to yours. If you only hit a driver 200-220 like me then keep the lowest power levels. The chicken stick uses golf pride grips and a steel shaft. When you put the remote in it the weight is close to swinging a real club. You get feedback on how square the club is at impact and whether you swing inside/out or outside/in. Is it perfect? No. Is it better than looking at the window waiting for the snow to melt? Certainly. My buddies and I have played with this game for some time and we put a golf ball on the ground and aim at that ball like we normally would on the course. One of the problems I had on the actual course was keeping my head still and staying down on the ball. When I am not on the course I am working on that at home on the Wii. Since I started my index has dropped almost 10 points. Is it the Wii/Chickenstick combo? Nah. But I do know that I have had to take a month off of real golf due to weather and work and I played inside my house with this combo exclusively and then I went out on a relatively cool day (45 degrees) and shot my lowest round ever, a 93. If you have a Wii it costs a total of $85 for the game and the device. I know that us golf addicts spend more than that on tons of golf related things. Give it a shot, you may like it.

Goals needed to be amended since I already broke 100 and my index has dropped down to 26.7 and will be going lower after today's round of 95. 1) Have fun 2) Practice more 3) Break 90 4) Break 100 in at least 50% of my rounds 5) Reduce index to 20 6) Play 100 rounds of golf at home course
