I have a G3 and love it. I use Lithium instead of rechargeable batteries, but other than that I agree with above. It's dead-on accurate, extremely rugged, and very easy to use. I don't track stats with it

Have you bought new clubs for 2012?
Cut68 replied to Spyder's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
New set of JPX Irons for me.....First mizuno's and first time being fitted. They're 2 degrees flat.........Finally had them on the course for the first time yesterday. Getting Fit changes everything. -
1.) Get my handicap back to single digits. I feel like my games finally back to a place where that can happen this year 2.) Win a season-long bet with my buddy. We play each round match play and then a season long stroke play. I used to beat him like a drum, but he's destroyed me the last 2 years

Need some new irons, tips please.
Cut68 replied to ThirtyOverPar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you are looking at the AP1's, check out the Mizuno JPX's. The JPX Pro's might be a good option for you too. -
I've had a similar internal debate, as I bought new clubs yesterday. In the end though, I think for 90% of us, more forgiveness than we need is better. I have a sweet set of blades, but I only pull them out when I'm on fire. I bought some JPX 800's yesterday, they were miles ahead of anything else I tried (miles ahead for me, that is) I think, if you wanted to go to something like the JPX or the AP1, you might find that works for you. Jumping to an AP2 or an MP, you might find out quickly that you aren't ready, and for me, those aren't really clubs that you can "grow" into. Yes, the forged clubs, when hit well, will always feel the best. They're like butter. But catch it on the toe on a cool day, and you may wish you had something else.

will be pulling the trigger in the next week or so. I've narrowed it down to JPX800, AP1, or G20. Whatever it is will likely have to be bent 2 degrees flat. Will stick with S300 shafts, I seem to hit them best. Thoughts on the 3 above? Also, what are the posibilities I can talk someone into selling me an AP1/AP2 combo for a lefty? That would be ideal, I think

1988-90 TaylorMade Tour Preferred T-D
Cut68 replied to treebound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
These were the blades, right? I played them in High School. My first set of decent Irons (although they were a few years old already at the time) I wish I still had them. My memory may be a bit nostalgic, but I certainly played better with them than I have with anything since. Traded them for Ping I-3's and always regreted it. -
Is this going to be your first set of blades? If so, don't drop too much cash on them. I have some Titleist 690 MB's that I absolutely love. I don't play them much, as my game is currently in the crapper, but they feel like butter when I"m on. All of my lowest rounds last year were with these (although my highest of the year was too) You can probably find a set for around $200. As has been said, though, make sure you get fitted. It will have a far bigger impact on your game than the model of club you choose

Titleist AP2 Vs. Mizuno Mp which one???
Cut68 replied to zrlaegel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
In comparing the 2 brands....... would the equivelant of the AP1 be the JPX 800? Anyone have thoughts on those 2? I'm a lefty, so the JPX Pro's are out. -
So I'm at the range the other day, pounding away, when the range pro walks by and says "trying to fix that chicken wing, huh? You got a flying elbow, pal" He briefly told me what he meant and then walked off. (he charges $150 an hr for lessons, or I would have signed up on the spot). can anyone suggest any drills to help with this? Is there some sort of rope or gadget to practice with that keeps my arms together? I tried for hours to figure it out on my own, but I consistently either shanked it or hit weak fade after weak fade (normal ball flight is a straight/draw to hook) Now I'm stuck, because I can't seem to fix this on my own, and I can't find my old swing, either. It seems like it's not possible for me to hit a draw like this. Not opposed to playing a fade if it helps me get better, but it's been years since I've done it, and I need to hit it longer than I am. Any help is appreciated.

What Driver To Get To Hit It Long
Cut68 replied to samtheman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Best thread I've read in a long time, IMO -
I played a Yonex Driver back in the mid 90's. It was a really funky, all black, plastic looking thing that I absolutely bombed. They're great, but pretty expensive clubs

for $47 on Ebay. Worth it? I've been playing the same Hawkeye 4 wood for a LONG time, was able to grab this right before it closed so I thought I'd take a chance. Anyone playing it? thoughts?

If a Shaft is not stiff enough for my swing, what will be the typical result?
-
So when I was fitted for my R11 this winter, I was told my swing speed was 90-95, so I was put in a regular shaft (this sounded low to me, but...... that's why we get fitted, right?) yesterday, I went to a Bridgestone ball fitting and was told my swing speed was consistently 103-107. 1. Is this too fast for a regular shaft, and what are the chances I can get it switched out? 2. What's the chance that either fitting was off? I tend to trust the faster swing speed more, but don't have a valid reason other than vanity, I guess. Seems like there might be a lesson here, that it's not a good idea to get fitted during a time of year when you're not playing any golf?

I've shot 73 Numerous times in the past on "real" courses, back when I had no wife or kid and played every day. My lowest the past few years was a 68 on a par 70, but the course is extremely easy, with an index of 62.4

Palm Springs Golf Recommendations?
Cut68 replied to Indiana Jones's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I played Silver Rock last Winter........ thought it was definately one of the best courses I've ever played -
Often times, when I'm walking a longer or more hilly course, I'll play poorly the last couple of holes. I don't see that on shorter courses or when I ride. When I do a golf trip in the winter, we play 36 a day (usually 2 different courses) and when we do this, typically the morning round will be ultra competitive, with the second round will be more casual (often times with many cocktails involved)

I actually had a golf coach in H.S. that suggested to all of us that we cut a hole in one of our pockets, so we could shake a golf ball out our pant leg when we're "looking" for our ball in the rough. He also insisted that all the balls in your bag were the same brand and same number. The guy was a complete joke, led to me quitting the team before my senior year
-
I would say I walk about 80% of the time. the exceptions would be: - When it's a more casual round then normal, and there's beer involved and friends that aren't very good -I'm playing a nicer course for the first time. I like to be able to drive up and check out blind shots, etc, and I don't know if it's a "cart course" or not -I'm playing 18 before work and won't have time to shower. I sweat like a pig in the summer when I walk 5 miles and carry the bag. Until about 5 years ago, I rode pretty much no matter what. Then I decided I was going to lose some weight (ok, the dr said to lose a lot) and I started going to the gym. It became harder for me to justify riding to myself on a regular basis. That being said, I don't judge people either way. I do think if the course is wide open, I can play faster in a cart, but I also think it wouldn't make a difference to a lot of people, they are just slow.

Sorry, that makes sense. I am a streaky putter, hit about 50% of my fairways, and fight a nasty hook with my Irons. My short game is far and away the strength of my game...... although my style in that department is a bit unconventional, so I'm not sure I would want him to mess with the short game. I would say my two biggest area's of opportunity are hitting my driver in the fairway more often (I'm solid with the hybrid of the tee to about 235) and consistancy with my irons. When I'm hitting my irons well, I throw darts, but I just can't stay dialed in, and when it goes bad, it goes really bad
-
It doesn't bother me that much when I don't score well, because I usually know why, but I am a miserable SOB to be around when I'm just not striking the ball well. If I shoot 90 but am catching the ball flush, I can live with it because I'm likely missing a lot of putts or not getting up and down like I normally do, or spraying my driver into a place I can't get out of. Sometimes, I'll creep over 90, and it's because I end up hitting a dirty little duck hook all day and can't fix it to save my life. THAT will put me in a rage until I have time to fix it.

Purchasing Used Golf Balls
Cut68 replied to dave39's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I got this and just ordered 2 dozen V1X's in refurbished grade A. I hope they perform, as that's my ball of choice and will be a longtime customer at that price if I like the product. -
So I got a deal online and I have 2 90 minute lessons to schedule with a respected local pro. What's the best way to utilize this time? should I go in with specific things to work on in mind, or am I better off taking some swings and letting him be the judge of what I need to work on? it's been a long time since I've had formal lesson's and I don't really know how to go about it.
