  1. Matchplay and skins are hole-by-hole, not overall score, so what holes you take them on makes a huge difference.
  2. Watch Tin Cup.
  3. I searched google quickly and didn't see anything, but have you thought about taking a few regular gloves to a tailor and have them alter the gloves to fit?
  4. Worst idea of the thread. What's Tiger need to change? Nothing. he's won 2 of the last 4 majors, and the two he didn't win he came in second. He also has like 3 wins on tour this year and is leading the World Golf Rankings, Money List, and Fed Ex Cup. Sure he could hit a few more fairways, but in reality he just hasn't made his really clutch birdie putts of late, and the field is becoming more competitive and less intimidated by him IMO. My prediction is that he'll win atleast one major this year, as well as atleast 6 regular stop victories, and everyone will still be debating why tiger is playing horrible.
  5. When I was in HS (class of 06) we had a very good team for a Public School of less than 700 kids. When I left we had like 40ish dual meet wins in a row and 2 league titles, and now I think they are at about 60 dual meet wins in a row and 3 league titles. The team averaged 152ish for 9 hole meets (6play, 4 count) and ~310 for tournaments (play 5, keep 4). I think our 9hole record was somewhere around 143 on a par 36 course.
  6. The ball is embedded when it comes to rest within its own pitch mark.
  7. The 15hdcp might enjoy it, but they do not want the guys shooting 100+ on the course slowing down play.
  8. This year I was looking for a new driver and the first one I bough/tried was a 905T. It was much nicer than my R7, but ultimately I got rid of it. When I went to demo new clubs, I hit Both 907s, a Hibore XL, FT-5, FT-i, Sumo, SUmo2, and a Superquad. The sumo2 that I tried was the best for me. The shaft really played a large part, also. It is a great Aldila VS-Proto 65-S, but anyways, I really did not like the new Titleists, and actually preferred the 905T I got used for $90 to the new 907s.
  9. CC greens are leaps and bounds better than all but the very best of the public courses, and generally the rest of the course fits into the same model. While it may not be *cheaper* than going to a public course, there are many benefits. In SE Michigan there are a few CCs that are pretty affordable (well not for me but others).
  10. No one really plays 7-woods anymore, they have been replaced by hybrids.
  11. I can say with a lot of confidence that there are not a lot of people on here that average 290. I play with some of the top amateur golfers in Michigan in tournaments and publinx (hdcps of like 4 - +3), and am right there/10yds short on average of the longest hitters, and they avg290 on a good day.
  12. My farthest of the year was yesterday on this hole: http://www.taylorgolf.com/lakes/scorecard14.html 432 from the tee, and I lasered it at 103 yards to a back pin placement. So about 330 yards on a flat hole w/a slight cross wind fighting my fade. It was an honest 50 yards longer than my avg. drives for the day. Second shot in was a full 56* wedge. Used a ProV1, they go for me, but I can pick up 10 yds if I use a Topflite or an Ultra.
  13. I would go to a local Golfsmith/ similiar store or a custom fitter and have them set you up. You more than likely will want stiff shafts in some nice game improvement irons, and a nice forgiving driver. You'll probably want your clubs to be lengthened an inch or so and maybe bent a little. This is where the custom fitting comes into play. Callaway has some nice, and moderately priced (for what you get) equipment for beginners.
  14. Hmmm, probably hit it 30 yards longer, and if he's playing an older shorter course maybe shoot a stroke or two lower, and shoot about the same if he played one of todays longer courses. Really good golfers have good, repeatable swings, but the great golfers have that swing and the short game and course management abilities to take them to the top.
  15. Ground under repair is a completely different thing. An embedded ball may be cleaned and must be dropped as close as possible to the original spot. A ball landing in ground under repair may be lifted and must be dropped outside of the GUR area. There could also be standing water in the rough, which allow an embedded ball to be dropped, but this wasn't a variable proposed earlier. Of course local rules/winter rules could come into affect when playing, but those weren't mentioned in the original post.
  16. WRONG. 25-2 Embedded Ball A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground in any closely mown area through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.“Closely mown area” means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less. An embedded ball may only be lifted and dropped when embedd if its in the fairway, fringe, green, or any other closely mowed area. This does not include the rough.

    Score Question

Are you reporting the score to someone? If not then why care? If you're using it for handicapping purposes, atleast in Michigan, the GAM, who uses the USGA scoring system, doubles 9 hole scores and uses them as one 18 hole score.
  18. $1 a hole skins if i just play with my buddy, with birdies paying double, eagles triple, and with $5,5,5 for front/nack/total scores. If I'm playing Publinx, we usually do $20 in a skins pot, and $5 in a pot for medal. Publinx is a good skin game, as theres 15-20 scratch or so golfers in each match + a $20 a man skins game at the end of the year tournament with 100+ publinxers. On Memorial Day I played in a outting with $25 skins, $10 to a birdie pot which paid out for every birdie made, and $15 to a straight skins game. There where 60ish players, altho most were high handicappers.
  19. I have: TM RAC PW 47* - 130yds Titleist Vokey Oil Can SW 52* - 50-120yds - Usually use for all of my approach shots into greens, chips that need to release Cleveland 588 RGT SW 56*/ - 0-100yds - Use for shorter approach shots or one that call for it to fly higher, chips that don't need to release Ping Eye2 LW 60* - 0-50yds - Almost exclusively out of greenside bunkers, or the few odd shots that require a very soft landing
