Titleist AP2 vs Rocketbladez TOUR advice please
livendie4golf replied to trevor's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
After reading through this thread I think that you guys have answered my questions. My dad is looking to get new irons. His Hogans are in need of retirement badly. Anyways he regularly shoots in the 80's, and prefers his clubs about 1/2 an inch long. He is going to go to a demo day at the course to hit some clubs before making a purchase, and to get the right custom fit. My brother and I both play the AP2's and he likes those, but also wanted to know what else was in that play ability range. So I've gathered that the TM Rocketbladez, AP2's and Callaway XHot Pro's are all in the same boat? Any others that would be worth taking a look at? -
Need Golf Ball Advice.
livendie4golf replied to Jpin76's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I would look into the Taylor Made TP3 (or even older is the TP Black), the Bridgestone e series, or the Srixon Q Star. They're both significantly cheaper than the balls that you mentioned above, and at a 17 handicap the difference wont take strokes off of your game. The TP3 feel great off the putter face, and they spin pretty well off of the low irons. My theory is to get twice as many balls for the same price. There are good deals on the balls on many websites (rock bottom, TGW, etc.) -
I do a few wedge bounces with each ball that I try to get a "feel" for them. The Z-Star was the softest of the Pro V1x, Taylor Made TP5, Callaway Hex (Chrome and Black). As far as the B-330 series I can't make an accurate comparison. I can definitely say that they are much softer than the e5, e6 and e7. Sorry that I can't help any more.

36+ handicapper ball
livendie4golf replied to cwaldo5252's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I definitely wouldn't use Pro V1's or any other "top end" ball. The balls that other users recommended (e6, DT solo, etc) are all good options. Check out some websites like rockbottomgolf.com where they sell bulk, used balls, for a good price. As a poster above me mentioned, lessons, and the driving range are a better place to spend the $$. -
The 2012 Players Championship Prediction Contest!

Has anyone here played any of the top courses in RI? Thoughts or comments on any of these? Newport CC, Wannamoisett, Agawam Hunt, Carnegie Abbey, or Rhode Island CC A lot of great courses is such a small place.

Yeah I mean the prices are definitely too low to be legally advertised. So either this guy is going to get in trouble with the big companies, or he's selling Chinese knock-Offs. Some of the knock offs are nearly indistinguishable these days. I don't trust it.

Masters Sweaters?
livendie4golf replied to livendie4golf's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thanks for the response. -
The hosts of Morning Drive on the Golf Channel were wearing some awesome sweaters with a masters symbol on them. I've searched the internet with NO success. Does anyone know where to get these or who makes them? Someone on here must have the answer!

Good point. I had done that. Everything about it seemed a little fishy. Hence the reason I posted the question on these forums instead of buying from an unknown website. So far it seems like a good non-purchase

Good info. Yeah I cant trust a website that looks too god to be true. However it would be a nice place to get clubs if they were trustworthy. Anyone with any good news on them?

I'm not sure if this is the correct section of the forum to post this. Please direct me where to post it if it is in the wrong section. Anyways I was looking around the internet and stumbled upon this website and their prices seemed too low to be true. Has anyone ever used this site or heard of it? I didn't want to get any knock-offs. Especially as a present for someone else. Thanks guys!

Anyone use a 56* as your highest lofted wedge?
livendie4golf replied to Hit em Good's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
To the OP. I have the same irons as you and a similar handicap. I use a 51, 54 and 58 for my wedges. I know it's a weird setup, but it works for me. My PW is about 130, so each club knocks off about 15 from there. 51 - 115 54 - 100 58 - 85 and in -
Best Sunscreen For Sensitive Skin???
livendie4golf replied to topnotch's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have had a similar problem to you for as long as I can remember. (Thank you Irish heritage) Anyways I have been using Coppertone Sensitive Skin Faces. Its SPF 50 and has not only kept me from burning it washed off well in the shower and doesn't irritate my super-sensitive skin. I think it's a step above the neutrogena brand. Neutrogena is a little more oily. Hope this helps. -
About to golf for the first time...
livendie4golf replied to JamieLuu's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Make sure to spend a lot of practice around the green. Chipping and putting will help your game tremendously. When you go to the range work on the lower irons (wedges - 8 iron) if you can get comfortable hitting these irons, you can gradually become more comfortable with a longer and less lofted club. Enjoy the game! -
Looking into new clubs - advice please
livendie4golf replied to Toffels's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just remember that different clubs have different lie angles. Just beacuse youre 2 degrees flat with titleist, doesnt mean youre 2 degrees flat with callaway or taylor made. So stick with titleist, or get re-fitted with a few companies. -
Back in a golf match in high school we were playing at a really nice course out on cape cod (to remain nameless). While waiting on the first tee I was working on my juggling with a wedge (the Tiger Woods bouncing on the Wedge) and as I tried to switch up and hit it between my legs the ball thinned off to the side, right where my partner was taking some practice swings. He was facing the wrong way and had no idea that I was doing this. The ball that I thinned flew through his legs, and into a perfect downswing, with a driver, right into our other teammates leg. The best part was, it was our most annoying teammate (Everyone has one on their team). It all happened so fast that none of us knew what to do, until the other team started laughing. Luckily the coaches weren't around.

Yeah we'll skip the normal shots and go straight to Phil backwards shots. After that we'll work on the cut 1 irons out of the sand. lol

What are some good golf videos out there? I am coaching a high school golf team and would like to get a few videos together for the kids to watch on rainy days. I recently picked up Butch Harmons "Ultimate Golf" and David Leadbetters "Golf Swing". What else do you guys recommend?

Like the post above mine stated, it is much easier to get them fitted as you purchase them. Most places will do it for free, or look online for a club demo day at a course or range near you. As far as buying them and then getting fitted, it all depends on the type of irons you get to see how much you can actually change. If you get a forged set they will still be able to bend them quite a bit. However other irons can't be bent quite as much. Hope this helps. As far as the irons go with your handicap there are some good choices out there. The irons that I just ordered feel fantastic (Titleist AP2), but the other irons in that same range would be the Nike pro-combo irons, the Callaway Razr's, as well as a few of Mizunos irons.

I took the plunge last night and ordered a set of new irons. I have never been custom fit for clubs,so I figured that this was the year to do it. I got the Titleist AP2's half inch over and 1 degree upright. Has anyone here had good or bad luck with custom fit clubs, or getting new irons right at the beginning of the year?

Theres a few that come to mind but I think it comes down to 2. 1. Sliced my drive on 18 (on the wrong side of the trees). We were down 1 and I sliced a 3-wood through about 20 trees and stuck the green from about 240. 9/10 times I would have hit the first tree. 2. Ball hopped into the water near the green on a par 5. Saw the ball submerged in about 4 inches of water. Took the shoes off, grabbed the lob wedge, and prayed to the golf Gods. Nearly sank the birdie, but saved the par to win the hole. Both took place while golfing in MD (which is a vacation from CT) with my dad and two fellow workers. Neither shot will ever be duplicated in my golf days. Although I hope I can add more fun ones to the list.

I think the best thing to do is get into some sort of a routine. I always pick my gap wedge to hit balls with. The first few balls usually only travel about 100 yds. Then once it starts going correctly I drop down to my SW, which now goes 100 yds. I then go through my irons in sequence, skipping every other iron. I either go PW-8-6-4 or 9-7-5-3. Then hit a few drivers. Depending on the number of Balls I feel like hitting I then play a few holes in my mind. Hit a driver off the tee like I would on the first hole, then pick an iron based on how well I hit my drive, then maybe a wedge to the green. Basically anything you will read will discuss the importance of routine in this game. Keep messing around until you become comfortable.
