I just got home from my best round EVER. I always thought I had potential to be a pretty good golfer and i was never able to put a whole round together, and finally today all my practice clicked. I shot an 81. I shot 3 over on the front, 6 over on the back on a par 72. I'm a bit upset because i had a triple on the back (ball on the left side of a bunker, and i'm a lefty so i had an awkward stance and completely duffed it, then left the next shot well short from about 160 yards out) and I missed some very make-able putts. SO CLOSE TO THE 70's! Overall I'm still very happy with the round since it's only my 2nd time shooting in the 80's lol. But I feel like I have the potential to shoot that low everytime out. I was just making shots that i make everytime on the range but screw up sometimes on the course. It was almost like I was just playing how i knew i could play. Feel free to comment. I was just excited and wanted to share :) Mitch

The Dan Plan - 10,000 Hours to Become a Pro Golfer (Dan McLaughlin)
mitchl17 replied to Jonnydanger81's topic in Golf Talk
The guy who wrote that article seems like a jealous ass. I guarantee that in that guys 19 years of playing golf, he wouldn't have come close to 10000 hours of playing, and if he's practicing properly, he will have seen most of the typical scenarios you might find yourself in on the golf course. Part of the mental aspect of the game is knowing you've practiced and can pull of that shot, which a lot of weekend players don't have because they don't practice nearly enough. Who is this guy to say that he doesn't have enough of the mental aspect. I'm not saying this guy will or won't make it, but I respect him for putting that type of commitment into anything. -
As other people have already mentioned, there was still a chance he would be playing. The game wasn't over. If you ever watch a sport when they do interviews during the game (like hockey interviews during intermission) you might as well just have a tape recorder with a cutout of the player, because they have the same cookie-cutter answers every time. This is expected, they are fully focused on playing, not giving a stupid 90 second interview. I'm sure all of these guys, like Tiger, are great guys to be around in most other situations. If anyone else gave the same interview it wouldn't be an issue.

What are you talking about, how could the ball possibly be moving sideways. The ball will be sitting still regardless. Just make sure the tee isn't split down the middle so the ball falls off and it won't make a difference. If your solution was using a new tee it was all in your head.

I'm going out for my first round this season too after a long winter (still snowing a little bit last week). Wish me luck!! I'm aiming for par
-
we should just move for the winter haha. It's not like i skate outside or play in the snow any more. Just makes work for me since i have to shovel haha.

Unreal. It snowed AGAIN yesterday. In April ahah. At least it was warm enough today that nothing is left on the ground. But it's supposed to rain for like a week straight. Golf season is taking too long to get here.

Hey, I'm just wondering if this site is legit. I'm assuming it is since it's a sponsor but I just want to make sure.

I actually live in Mississauga most of the time. I'm only in Hamilton for school. What course do you usually play? I live like 30 seconds drive from Braeben.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I missed my chance to play high school golf as I am currently in University. I was never interested in playing golf competitively when I was younger and I played other more traditional sports (hockey and baseball - both at the rep level which didn't leave much room to play too much golf). In the past year or year and a half I have become really interested (obsessed with??) golf. Until recently I have been fully self taught. I should have been breaking 90 consistently, but my putting was horrendous. This winter I took some lessons and changed a few things in my swing that were leading to a lot of inconsistencies. I've been swinging the club indoors the whole winter so my new swing is ingrained pretty well. I've decided to practice at least 4 times a week this summer after work and hopefully play at least once a week. Also, I just turned 20 last month. I'm not a big guy (5'8, 145-150) but I'm pretty athletic and can generate quite a bit of clubhead speed (I've got a very strong lower back and core). I know I might not be able to get on the team, but I'm hoping that in 2 years I might be good enought to at least try out. I know I have the potential to shoot in the 70's, it only depends on how long it takes me to get there. I'm in Hamilton (McMaster University).

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if any of you had experience with university golf in Canada (more specifically Ontario). I was just wondering what type of scores I would need to post in order to be able to compete (or at least not make a fool out of myself if I want to tryout). My guess would be that it is less competitive here than in the States, but I'm assuming I would still have to be hitting in the 70's consistently. What do you guys think? Thanks, Mitch

Even if it's below freezing? ahaha. I wish i could get out sometime soon, but its still below freezing here with snow on the ground from Wednesday morning.

Hey guys, I was wondering about your opinions about using a tee on the tee decks with irons. I've found in the past that I don't compress the ball as well when I use a tee and my shots tend to be less consistent. Maybe I was just teeing it up too high. Anyway, interested in your guys' thoughts. Mitch

I tend to wander the rough looking for my own balls :P

LOL. Fly me out too, I haven't played since October. Snow is already starting to melt, I've got high hopes for next weekend.
-
Where do you live, the winters in southern ontario where i am are no worse than new york, buffalo etc. Obviously the guys further up north have it pretty bad and I would never consider living there.
-
Which dome do you go to? The one at Dixie and the 401?
-
I don't have enough room for the net in my backyard really though.
-
lol, i was asking for me since i don't have room in my backyard because I have a pool.
-
I was wondering about this too. What if you brought a net and a mat so you didn't take divots. I should find out from someone the laws in my area.
-
I'm not a big fan of domes. You can feel the contact, but basically the ball goes and hits a net, can't tell trajectory or anything.
-
Not playing for a whole season really hurts your game haha. Takes me a quarter of the year just to get back to as good as I used to be. This winter I've been swinging a club constantly, so hopefully i can get back into the groove faster.

I'm actually in Hamilton right now for school, pretty close to Guelph, so we probably got the same amount of snow pretty much. As much as i like winter, I need it to be over haha, I want to get some range time at least!!
