:) That just doesn't make sense to me. Surely hitting the same positions as someone with a good swing is going to result in a good swing... Thanks very much! My main problems are fat/thins and pushes, looks like the pushes are coming from my right arm getting a bit stuck. I think I need to create more room on down swing for my arms (by getting my arms down faster) and the right elbow pointing at right hip, rather than being next to the hip as this makes the swing arc wider than it needs to be, moving the bottom of the arc backwards. Also think I, not so much overswing, but try to force A4 to be a little bit longer, if I hold shorter then I tend to hit the ball much better (and straighter).

So I thought I'd do a sequence of images comparing myself to Mike Bennett - this has been helpful as I now know why Stephan is wanting me to lay down the shaft more between a4 and a5 - I get steeper than MB who matches the plane (at A3) of his club shaft that he sets at A1. A8 and A9 are approximate - here they show where the club face enters and leaves the body.

Watched him answer a question about Stack & Tilt the other day. He had absolutely no idea about it! Don't know why he even bothered to make a video as everything he said was wrong. I do quite enjoy his vlogs though.

Getting a little better :-) Trying to get a bit more laid off between a4 and a5 and a straighter left arm throughout the back swing especially.

:-) I was watching the Sunderland game on the big tele, the Hull game on my mobile and the Newcastle game on a laptop I was over at the in-laws house too (Newcastle supporters) Beer flowing and plenty of food to pick at.

Well at least you're not a glory seeker! Well done on that one! Sunderland for me :)
-
Definitely! Have you picked a team to follow? (please don't say Newcastle).

Will do! Thanks.

Just need to get the World cup moved from Qatar now.

@Abu3baid This is my priority piece now - how did the above drill work out for you? I've been doing slow motion mirror work, just going from A1 to A4 and then down a A6 trying to get my right elbow to my belly button. Trying to get pitch elbow rather than punch elbow by squeezing my elbows together - which should also help prevent me bending my left arm. Also trying to burn this into my head and also doing it as a drill - http://stephenhoult.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/hogan.gif (filesize is too big to embed properly)

First analysis back so two things to work on. 1. Need to keep my left arm straight in the back swing as it's beginning to bend pretty much in the takeaway. 2. Lay down the shaft in the down swing as it's a bit steep - a line extending from the butt of the club at A5 is pointing directly at the ball, it should be pointing about 18 inches outside of the ball. Keeping the left arm straight and squeezing my elbows together should help get more of a pitch elbow which I believe will help flatten out the shaft on the down swing. I'm more 'punch elbow' in the swings above. This is taken from the pitch elbow thread , I'm like the left and need to get more like the right.

So that's what the middle of the face feels like... Much better contact standing slightly further away!

Thanks Mike! I'll record some new swings before submitting to evolvr :)

Yup. Sather didn't want to pay what Stralman was asking. Looks like a bad move the Way Stralman has played (always looked good) and Boyle is a great shut down forward. I'd have liked to have kept both of them. And Callahan was my favourite Ranger! :-(

Just an update - starting Evolvr again tomorrow so wanted some new video to use. Hitting a lot of shanks / very near shanks in these videos. Thinking I need more knee bend at address, that way when I regain flexion in the downswing my head won't be going down but staying steady (providing I don't stand up in the backswing).
-
Ah, so supporting your local team - I'll let you off I hope the Lighting go on to win it now (for Callahan and Boyle, and, I suppose for, Stralman).
-
Wasn't that the season the Lightning won the cup?
-
The first season (easily my favourite) was what got me into golf in the first place back when the golf channel was aired in the UK.

Does Westwood's chicken wing mean he can get more shaft lean as his the shaft isn't anchored to where his shoulder is? (if that makes sense). It looks as is forearm can be angled more towards to the right due to the bent elbow giving a greater flying wedge? (And possibly even more secondary axis tilt?) Does this benefit him at all? If he didn't have a chicken wing and hit the ball with the same amount of shaft lean as he does with the chicken wing would the ball flight be any different, more/less distance? (Don't worry I'm not going to try to swing with a chicken wing on purpose)

Re the height of the shots... For a straight push you're swinging in to out with a club face that is square to the swing path. For a hook the club face is closed to the swing path which delofts the club face. So... as a square (to the swing path) club face has more loft than a closed (to the swing path) club face, the straight pushes you were hitting will have had a typically higher ball flight than your pulls / hooks. I think the same goes for a pull, although the clubface is square to the path it is probably delofted slightly (but I'm not totally sure on that one) giving a lower ball flight than a straight push.

No problem. :-) Hopefully it helps a little. Thanks very much! :-)

I'm not sure how this will affect other parts of your swing but try a weaker grip. A strong grip can promote a cupped wrist at A1. The first thing James had me do when I started with Evolvr was to weaken the grip to help get rid of the cup at address as it was throwing things off at A4. Here is that lesson from James as he explains things a little better in there: Hope that helps.

Just to second this, I used to cup my wrist. I now feel like I must look like Dustin Johnson now when I swing, I don't, but my wrist is now flat. Try to really exaggerate bending your wrist down (dorsiflexion?) Rather than cupping. Doing this into a mirror really helped me as you can associate what you're feeling with what's actually happening - instant feedback.

Another couple of videos. Apologies for the length of them (both still under 5 minutes) this is a full half hours practice session - with practice shots removed. I have however left in some drills to show how I'm practicing (some preset weight forward swings, pumps from the top and some Hogan feeling - there's a gif on an earlier page - and a Mac O'Grady drill too - also on an earlier page and some extended pauses at the top). I was trying to get better extension (one of my old evolvr pieces) so some swings you'll see me finish and then try to get into the proper position - (i.e. trying not to waste a swing) - but I'm still not getting it right.. I'm hitting very close to the heel (didn't feel any shanks, but that used to be a problem, and not many - if any at all, fat shots - my main miss). Also still hitting way out to the right so I'd imagine these swings would result in some big pushes and push fades due to a pretty open club face, outwards path and gear effect from the heel hits. My priority for now is I'd like to get rid of the dipping down of my head during the down swing as I think this is probably not helping with fat / thin shots - I don't know where it's come from (possibly from no golf and playing hockey instead over the last year and a half) - but this priority may change as I'm just waiting for Payday before going back to Evolvr! :-)
