  1. congrats. surprising that you did it with new irons. usually takes me 8-10 rounds to get the distances on new irons dialed in.
  2. once I got to the 14th or 15th hole and saw 4 groups on the tee in a roudn that was already tracking to be 5+. we cut across the the 18th tee, played that and headed home.
  3. no, because of the way it is handicapped. high handicappers are given too much of an advantage.
  4. 73 from the tips at Chaska town Course. (slope 140). hit 15 greens, best i have ever hit the ball, but couldn't make a putt to save my life. my putting is about to be give the rest of the summer off. next round i will be going back to my 15 year old zebra putter and will start looking for a new one. initial thoughts are one of the new scotty studio selects.
  5. saw her in person today. definitely not heavy, maybe a bit more muscler.
  6. former US amateur semifinalist; his 4 handicap now (he's 60) is the highest since he was 14 years old.
  7. the one thing that always impresses me is just how far in front of the ball the divots are for these guys. always 4-6 inches in front of the ball.
  8. has anyone else tried these? a friend of mine begged me to try them and i was incredibly impressed. impressed enough that i would replace my HX Tour 56s for them in the right conditions. very good distance and workability and surprisingly good control on the greens from 100-190 yards out. lost a little control in chipping, but if I was playing bombers course on a wet or windy day, i might consider them.
  9. 38 for nine holes. missed 4 birdie putts under 8 feet and lipped out a 40 footer on the last hole. should have been at least 1 under instead of 2 over
  10. something i've done that helps alot. I go to a 9-hole exec course and play Missemall (the Dave Pelz game). that is, i try to shoot even par without hitting a green in regulation.
  11. that's why i was confused. I know OB markers can't be moved but i thought that water hazard markers could be
  12. whenever i play during the week, i usually play by myself. usually go out at 7-730 and see how many holes I can get in. one thing you have to watch about playing alone is that often you will get to playing too fast, especially around the greens and not stick to your preshot routine.
  13. are the stakes which mark a hazard considering movable obstructions or loose impediments? ball is in the first cut of rough, just off a water hazard on a hole with a sharp dogleg. the 2 foot stake is directly between the ball and hole and may interfere with the projected ball path. can i move the stake marking the hazard line? i know i should know this but i don't.
  14. here are my issues with Blackwolf Run. I agree that the valley is a better course. However, I think it is very overplayed and while in decent shape, is not in the same league as the others on the list. I know this is something Herb Kohler takes alot of pride in. My other issue for top courses is that I prefer courses where there condition for public play every day and hosting major golf tourneys is as close as possible.
  15. from a pure golf perspective, i would rank the courses previously mentioned in this order 1. erin hills. 2. Pacific Dunes 3. whistling straits (straits course) 4. Bandon Dunes 5. Pebble Beach 6. Bandon Trails 7. Whistling straight (other course can't remember the name) 8. About 50 other courses in WI (including Grand Geneva and Big Fish) 58. Blackwolf Run obviously PB has the history and Whistling Straits has some great lake michigan view. but Erin Hills offer much challenge and options for a golfer.
  16. lately had trouble getting consistancy on my low draws. they either go high or i get the dreaded straight ball. any thoughts. I generally have been playing the ball a couple balls back of center and try to end with a medium (10:00) follow through?
  17. mine's a bit further apart-- 3.9 vs. 10.4. however alot of my anti-handicap rounds are ones where I am not playing "smart" golf. Often, i'll be playing match play or skins against friends where i am giving up a ton of strokes and play much more aggressively than i would if it were stroke play.
  18. 2 moves-- 1) after i bomb a driver, i pick up my tee without even looking at the ball. 2) after i knock a short iron very close, i hold my finish for an extra 5 seconds and then drop the handle and catch the club by the face.
  19. 94 from the championship teesas a guest at Hazeltine. First time since my teens where i can say I shot in the 90s and actually played fairly well.
  20. just moved to MN as well. been trying out a few local courses in the past month. so far, chaska town course is my favorite by far.
  21. hit greens. scrambles are putting contests. you need to give yourself a chance at birdie every hole.
  22. make sure you are staying behind the ball and not lunging at it. most sky high balls result from the arc of your swing being in the wrong spot.
  23. here's a link from daly's book. http://books.google.com/books?id=0PY...f8=en#PPA71,M1
  24. pretty ridiculous. remember that most tough courses or tourneys/qualifiers have course ratings between 75-77. so a scratch golfer if he plays to his handicap would be a few over per round where you need to be a few under to win.
  25. not in the short-term, but trust me based on being a single digit handicap for the past 10 years, the only way to putt the ball within 25 feet of the hole would have been to put through at least 2 feet of primary rough.
