thats what makes the game interesting, no matter how much you practice you are still only scratching the tip of your potential.

I do not actually believe that the lob wedge should be used for full shots, there is never a situation where a full lob wedge is more accurate than a part of a PW/SW. My clubs run 1W, 3W, 4-SW, and I have yet to find a shot where I absolutely needed a LW/GW or even a 5W (but thats a different subject). But if you are consistently around the green and need the ball to stop I could see how a LW is a convenience but you could accomplish the same thing with an open faced SW. Instead of looking for one absolute club for a particular distance, practice distance control with all your clubs. Because unless you are in the fairway 100% of the time you will be dealing with an obstacle where you can't use the club you want.

Develop a pre-shot routine. A lot of people that have aim issues will do the following: (feet is for righties, if you are a lefty switch em up) Put the club down behind the ball, and line the face to the target. Place your right foot down how far you want to stand from the ball. Place your left foot next to it (the ball should be in between your feet), and make sure that you have parrallel feet align and club face align. Move your left foot based on where you want the ball in your stand, don't move your right foot unless its a low iron or wood. good luck

I think thats just a mental thing, you could pull on your sleeves like fred couples and it would probably accomplish the same thing. Which of course is to cut out your swing thoughts

I wouldn't throw out any of my basic clubs to make room for an extra wedge. Nine time out of ten the shot I need from a gap wedge I can get from my 3/4 pw. Wedges become a nusisance when you have more control over your power because then you are left trying to decide which shot you should choose, and seven out of ten times youll choose the wrong one because you want to mash a club to just get it there

While a quality swing is important for quality clubs, as long as you have your basic fundamental swing. Posture, grip, swing speed, swing path. You can get fitted for clubs. Bad clubs can also hinder you from performing better, since you have to adjust your swing for those clubs. Such as myself I had clubs that were about an inch and a half to short for me, which caused me to lose my posture. Very hard time fixing that.

I have the exact same swing for all of my clubs, though the length of the backswing/follow through might change based on how far I want the ball to go. As per your set up, basically yea whatever you want to do, its just that maintaining one type of set up helps build consistency. Not to mention its easier to diagnose one problem and not 4 or 5

Help - check out my swing
powerhitter replied to Carnoustie_Stokie's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
There isn't muscle memory, its just your brain which remembers how your muscles should react in a certain situation. This feeling gets applied without "thinking" and thus you have "muscle memory". -
Help - check out my swing
powerhitter replied to Carnoustie_Stokie's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I assumed drills were to be permanent fixes, since they are sections of the golf swing that you then tack onto your existing swing/replace bad sections of the swing with otherwise there would be no point in doing them. -
I try not to have any thoughts in my swing, tends to disrupte my feel for hitting the ball.

Taking Divots vs sweeping the grass
powerhitter replied to airlefty's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
lol divot's aren't necessary they just mean you are putting a little more backspin on the ball. If you sweep the ball of the grass you can still be a good ball striker, look at sam snead. -
Help - check out my swing

Well its really up to the people that post the images/people that are intended to view them whether or not they can see them lol. But ill have to go with ringer on the feet together, it might help for a shot or two but in no way is it a permenant fix. -
*thumbs up* I can see the image, nice ones that that too

I guess my grip pressure changes depending on where am I and what i'm doing but can't say i've thought about it to hard.

That's right all I see is a red x If the image is hosted on a website it might be busy, temporarily offline or bust . Or the image file on the website might have been renamed/removed. Or maybe a mistyped image location. I doubt its my internet firewall

I tried one of my buddies older left drivers (im a rightie) needless to say I hit the club head into the ground and the head flew off almost knocking out a squirrel, i was entertained

Well for humans its a catch 22, because if you were a machine that could perform the same swing everytime there wouldn't be this confidence factor. But the main reason I stress the physical is that no one is physically perfect since you can always get better in some respect.

one vs. two plane swing confusion.
powerhitter replied to MPS67's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Lol golf is a confusing game, but everything people are telling is trying to get you to shift your weight correctly. Some leave out the actual details (let your body handle it) and some put the details in (40-60, 20-80, 90-10). Yes you do turn about your core so your hands through impact WILL be infront of your club head, and ball if you are pretty good . As for swing plane its all about your body structure, some people need 1 plane because they can not physically perform the 2 plane as well. If you are flexible and relatively atheletic you may prefer the 2 plane, while the reverse is true of a shorter stocky person. As for style of pitching and full swing it all depends on what you want the ball to do. By hitting down on the ball (steeper swing) you will produce shots that will "check up". While some other more mechnical swings will produce very repeatable reliable shots. So you need to ask yourself do I want the ball to check, and hope that I get the yardages right. Or do I want the ball to roll towards the cup in a repeatable fashion. I don't push either choice because its personal, but I like the way spin looks In the end its all practice, find a good pro, and you might find a good game -
Technology is a major contributor to good players staying good later on in life. Without it they would be doing so much worse due to longer holes and shorter drives. You also need to figure that those numbers are inflated with "weekend hackers", some of which don't bother to get better through practice. But I think golf is a physical game (not talking brute strength), if you can train your body to do the same shot everytime, all the time, the mental part will come with. Youll have confidence in your shots and find yourself scoring lower.

i can still see the hip one from before, but the latest 2 pictures do not show. photobucket, and imageshack are decent

You must have some pretty deep holes if you putt 50 in a row in lol but yea ive done that before, its helpful if you think you are looking up at the putt, leaving it out on the right side.

Drving Helps ! ( again )
powerhitter replied to Steven McFarlane's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I would suggest disregarding the wider stance, it just makes you more balanced and actually causes you to try to swing to hard and drop the club head behind the ball. Play it forward and remember that your hips start the downswing not your arms. To get the most power maintain the 90 degree cock in your wrist for as long as possible. If you videotape yourself you want to see your hands infront of the clubhead by about 5-6 degrees. -
The general standard is (for righties, left foot - right foot) 40 - 60 at address 20 - 80 backswing 80 - 20 follow through Personally I change this slightly 40 - 60 at address 10 - 90 backswing 90 (sometimes 100) - 10 follow through the main thing is that you are trying to shit as much weight through the ball as possible. And remember the weight is supposed to be on the inside of your foot

Alot of your power that some people may not realize is there is located in your midsection, specifically underneath your abs. Practice exhaling to tighten the muscles and then do your normal ab routines, like cruches. This article is a good one for finding out about general golf fitness, which in time relates to more power with less effort http://www.shark.com/sharkwatch/fitness/fitness17.php

Which grip do you reccomend/teach?
powerhitter replied to RyanR's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hitter/Swinger grip Generally you can think of it as how you approach the game of golf. Are you try to hit the ball ? Or are you trying to swing the club ? So if you are a hitter you are more for power (such as myself) and tend to have more athletic swings, while there are people (swingers) that approach the game through accuracy and have very strong mechanics. Atleast that is how I always thought of it
