  1. Last week I played a round that took 5.5 hours. It was a Thursday afternoon with a 2:39p tee time. We didn't have to wait at all on the front, but they let a few groups tee off on the back and it clogged everything up. At one point there were three groups waiting on the tee at a par 5. Not a Marshal to be had anywhere.
  2. I love the idea of using one club for most chipping situations. Phil uses a 60 (according to his video) but I find that the 56 works better for me. I will pull out the 60 for a lob but I think it is more of a psychological thing because I know I can make the shot with the 56.
  3. Less Johnny Miller. Anyone else notice that he has abandoned handicapping every shot with a blank in ten chance etc... Also, my biggest pet peeve for golf and all sports is LESS GRAPHICS during play. There is so much clutter on screen it is distracting and in many cases it actually hides the ball or the hole.
  4. Last night on Golf Channel they alluded to the fact that these guys have the same manager and that there is some sort of rift between him (the manager?) and TPC.
  5. I don't Bubba has ever done well at Sawgrass has he? Doesn't seem very suited to his game.
  6. Good luck! Can't wait to watch!
  7. Welcome! I love your Stooges pic. Awesome.
  8. Welcome! One of the things I did after reading about it in this forum was pick up a copy of the Phil Mickelson dvd "Secrets of the Short Game". Wow. It is really well put together and Phil is amazingly good on camera and at explaining his techniques. Just a thought...good luck!
  9. I am going to wait until next winter when there are deals to be had. Keep us posted on what you decide and afterwards.
  10. Age: 46 Ht: 5-9 Wt (3/12/11) 214 Wt (5/7/11) 204 Goal: 190 For me it is pretty simple: Eat a bit smarter, eat a bit less, and exercise a bit more. In the past I have gone crazy with the exercise both cardio and weight training, but I found that it was difficult to lose weight. I think I had a tendency to eat too much after exercise. So this time I am monitoring my caloric intake and doing things like walking (to work two-three times a week about a mile, walking on the course...) The best thing I did was download a free app on my Iphone called Lose It. It is a calorie and exercise log. It has really helped me understand what I am eating and how much. I know it sounds silly and I certainly never thought of myself as a "calorie counter", but it forces me to be accountable and to be honest. Good luck!
  11. Thanks for resurrecting this thread. Very interesting. The way he describes the pressure points in his right hand (between first finger and thumb) really resonated.
  12. -Stronger grip -Keeping my left (front) arm straighter and more "pinned" to my body. -A bit more turn in my shoulders. Make it so!
  13. Thanks for the feedback!
  14. I like the TPC. I like the fact that it is played on the same course. (I feel like I know it really well from years of video games.) The PGA should take note. It should be played on the same course or a small number of courses in rotation like the Brit.
  15. I have been a casual player for a long time, and inevitably my first round(s) of the season would typically be my best. Recently I decided to try to play more and take the game more seriously. I bought some new equipment at the end of the winter and have been going to the practice area each week. I think I have a pretty good routine and have been working on all areas of my game. I have also been reading a lot and studying different approaches to the game. Here is my problem: At the range I have been hitting the ball solid, straight, and high but when I get on the course it is like I am holding the club for the first time. The last six rounds that I have played it seems like I am digressing again. I am only able to hit 4 or 5 decent shots per round. My practice and warm-up sessions are still solid but I can't hit it a lick when I get out on the course. Any thoughts? I am sure this isn't unique. I wonder what others have done in this situation. Thanks for your feedback! Bill K
  16. Shindig: It depends where in OR you are. The way I understand it (and I am still a relative new comer), when you get east of Mt Hood into Central OR it starts to get much drier and desert like. I am in Portland and I can tell you that it rains a lot. (But it is a dry rain! Okay not really...) I am sure people play through it...not really my thing though.
  17. Langdon is definitely on my To Do List... Thanks.
  18. New site member from Portland. Greetings all! Just returned from a Florida trip a week ago. Played four courses in four days (a first for me!). Took the red eye and landed in Palm Beach and went straight to Trump for round one. Here's where we played: Trump International (West Palm) Polo Trace (Delray Beach) North Palm Beach CC (Palm Beach) Abacoa GC (Palm Beach) They were all great spots. My fav was probably North Palm (a Nicklaus course). The greens were crazy fast. On one putt a playing partner shot a twenty footer a good fifteen feet past the cup. It stopped and rolled back to within a foot. Very funny. This will be my second summer in Portland after relocating from the east coast. I have played many of the munis already. Heron Lakes is my favorite. I hope to get out to Pumpkin and The Reserve later this summer.
  19. Finally a decent weekend in Portland! I played the Greenback at Heron Lakes on Saturday. And yes my ball did plug in the fairway more then once.
  20. I bought a new iron set this year and was topping them a lot at first. At the range, it really helped me to tee them up while getting the feel for them. Good luck!
