  1. In all my rounds of golf I only remember seeing 2 people use a rangefinder. Myself and my buddy. It seems people who take their game more seriously will probably own and use one; and people who take their game seriously probably play a little better and in turn faster. So I believe there could actually be a correlation between faster play and range finding. Some might say that really poor play doesn't necessarily mean slow play. This could be true in some cases. However, if a real hack is truly playing by the rules and keeping a real score, then every duff/lost ball/hazard/OB/4 putt/etc. definitely contributes to slow play.
  2. My comment was aimed toward those suggesting to add weight to the head of a normal putter to "wean" off the heavy putter. Like you said. The reason why a heavy putter works is because its balanced by the weight in the shaft. Yet you suggest to people to add a bunch of weight to the head of a normal putter, so it will be far out of balance and a poor tool for training/performing a proper stroke. I'm guessing that could cause a lot of three putts on the golf course, maybe that's what you were referring to?
  3. I hope everyone knows that with the Heavy Putter, the weight is under the grip, not in the head.
  4. Six packs are also largely genetics and not necessary for good health. The best way to use more calories than you eat is to exercise. Just eat healthful foods and exercise, its so simple.
  5. What do you weigh, 115lbs?
  6. Why cant you up the weight? Place a weight on your chest and sit up? Besides this is largely irrelevant to the topic at hand.
  7. No! Couldnt be further from the truth. I dont know where some people get this idea. Gotta be the corn/sugar growers that spread this lie and consumers buy it because it benefits them. Quote:
  8. Interesting. I actually place the ball on the tee first, then place the combo into the ground.
  9. All I hear is wah wah wah Im a whiny golf snob.
  10. Hold on, the whambulance is on its way. Seriously lighten up.
  11. So it is your opinion that 20+ year old "cheaper stuff" feels like it should be thrown away. Noted. Thank you. BTW I wonder if everyone is aware that there are more than just name brand clubs, or counterfeit clubs. Its not so black and white. There are lesser known brands or "generic" clubs as well that are completely legitimate.
  12. Regardless of how he came into possession of said club, how is it that his findings regarding the quality were illegitimate? I don't see where he is supporting counterfeit clubs, all I see is that he is asking if the name brand really makes a difference. I guess I'm just illiterate, though.
  13. Just because you read something three times doesn't mean you comprehend it. It is obvious by your knee jerk response that you do not understand what was written. Are you seriously under the impression that your Nike, Nickent and Titleist club components were all manufactured in America? Or that anyone who buys anything made overseas deserves to "end up unemployed"? I hope you don't vote. OP clearly stated the he did not intend to purchase a counterfeit, how could you have missed that? He is simply asking if anyone else agrees that a non-brand name club of quality compares to a name brand one. I for one think that the quality difference is often negligible, and the difference,s if any, are all mental.
  14. I play giga irons, love them. Great customer service, they stand behind their products. This is probably the reason they have a hard time believing that you had two faulty driver heads... and its been two years!
  15. Lessons to be learned. Two different situations will always provide two different results. Im not sure how you can precisely be fitted for a club when youre not even set on your grip, one of the most basic parts of the golf swing. Now that you have spent your $465, take some lessons and learn to hit it. As far as the club being scuffed up, why did you pay for it? Also dont focus on the brand name when making such a big investment if you want the best for your game.
  16. Aim for the smallest point on the biggest targets.
  17. Yes, dont leave your club outside where weather will provide undue wear and tear on your clubs, bring the club back inside!
  18. There are a lot of threads on this. Sunday I had a great driving day and my buddy was just amazed at my length off the tee. The longest I hit according to the gps was 289, and that was downhill. The rest were about 220-240. On the 18 hole I really got a hold of one, a drive the uneducated would probably guess had to approach 300. It was really low and had a lot of roll but it was an extremely uphill hole. Gps distance? 190 yards... quite humbling to the casual observer, but I was happy with it. Nothing like drilling your tee shot and having the same distance left to the hole, only now I cant tee up and hit driver!
  19. I voted pitch shot over bunker/water. The flop shot over a bunker with bunker/trouble on the other side of the pin, not to mention probably from a tight lie, really gets my nerves going. Sure the short putt under pressure isnt easy, but a 4 foot putt is still an easier shot regardless of the circumstances. With that flop shot my only real option is pretty much perfection, or trouble. Another vote I might have considered is a tee shot on a long hole with a narrow space between OB and OB or hazard. With that shot Im either hitting a great tee shot, counting penalty strokes, or clubbing down and settling for a bogey or worse before I even hit my first shot! Maybe I should play the shorter tees....
  20. I played on my high school team, thanks to my coach who didn't cut anyone. Cheating was common. High school rules were to pick up after double-par, so I would sometimes struggle even breaking 70 on nine holes. My average score was probably mid 60's, terrible I know but I had never picked up a golf club before joining the team. Maybe it was the way I was raised or how I felt about sports and integrity on my own, but it never even crossed my mind to cheat. I only played a few tournaments on the B team considering how much I sucked at golf, but my playing partners/opponents ALWAYS cheated. Whether it be not counting penalties, missed-tap ins, the foot wedge play, or even just flat out writing down a lower score. I had playing partners blatantly kick balls out from behind trees and say "Don't say anything, cool?" I think the only time they couldn't really get away with it was a situation where they putted 3 or more times, or they hacked at a ball in a sandtrap several times before it came out, and everyone was watching. I didn't care too much, because I sucked so badly and just wanted to end the embarrassment for myself. Although, it didn't feel to good when I actually managed a magic par or bogey on a hole, and the other players noticed and lowered their scores because there's no way that I could have beat them on a hole. So sadly, yes cheating happens, a lot. You're teaching your daughter right, and unfortunately for her to be as successful as possible shes not only going to have to focus on her game, but the game of the other players as well. As far as your buddy at work telling you he shoots in the 80's only to play with him one day and see him hack it around the entire time, that's another story.
  21. Not shocking at all. Worked for me. Not swinging hard has got to be the number one hardest thing for me to do, as well as most people I see play. I still dont believe that my 5 iron goes 150 straight as an arrow when I swing like an 80 year old woman, it just doesnt seem possible but it works. Pure contact beats out speed with poor contact every single time. When I make great contact swinging as hard as I can the ball goes maybe 10-30 yards farther, and probably 10-30+ yards higher depending on the club, and its soooooo difficult to not want to try and get that result everytime. The score sure does drop a whole heck of a lot with the soft swing. If youre in between clubs, or not sure, CLUB UP and swing soft. It is said so often, but people still dont do it. Probably the same people that have never broken 100 legitimately, but still play from the tips. Pride gets in the way, and golf ads/golfers make it appear that you should swing hard all the time and its all about distance, but Id rather hit it straight and at my target everytime, wouldnt you?
  22. I struggle with this as well. Surely you are decelerating the club head before you strike the ball which almost always ends with a poor result. You have to trust your club and not be afraid to hit it to hard. You must be firm with your stroke and use the loft of the club to keep the distance short. If you hit it too hard at least you still give yourself a chance to land it on the green or even hit the flagstick. Id rather hit it 45 yards when I was aiming for 35, then to hit it ten and barely advance the ball. BTW how much do you practice these shots?
  23. Go for it. Hit the ball first, then the ground.
  24. Today, while looking for my partners golf ball in the bushes I found a TM PentaTP, Callway Touri(z), and a Prov1 within 5 feet of eachother. Two of them were so close they were actually touching. Not a bad find, but I usually dont go out of my way to find balls. That find had me change the way I thought of "ball hunting". This was a nicer course than I usually play, explains the caliber of balls I was finding. And I finally found out where all the brand new 2011 golf club sets were actually being played...
