  1. i have been impressed with the top flite gamer v2 i'm not saying it's on the same level as a proV1, but we are talking about golf balls under the $27 mark, and at that pricepoint, i just don't think it gets better than the top flite gamer
  2. if you're getting proV1s for free (that's what it sounds like to me), then knock yourself out brotha!!
  3. i tried using apps on my phone and it was just too much of a hassle. part of the reason i enjoy golf is because i get to toss my cell in the bag and forget it. i prefer using my head, but i'm a gadget junkie...so if anyone has any neat stroke-counting thing-a-ma-bobbers, then please post a link fwiw...i'm 33yrs old
  4. this X2 i'm a high capper as well, and i refuse to play with a ball that costs 4 bucks a piece when i am prone to losing 3-4 per round. golf is already expensive enough the top flite gamer (or gamer V2) costs about a buck a piece, and you can find them on a few online sites for less... at my skill level, i don't think that i can "work" a ball enough to warrant the expense of the proV1s. i have been more than pleased with the top flite gamer
  5. jet, i'm a newbie and i feel the same way i own around 5 or 6 moisture wicking/dri-fit style shirts. 4 of them came from burlington coat factory (around 9-14 bucks a pop) and the other 2 came from haggar mens clothing (around 12-18 bucks a pop). they all work VERY well, but i have never worn a $70 golf polo from one of the major manufacturers to compare. however, having played football and baseball thru college, i feel like i'm a pretty good judge of athletic apparel. i have no problems with the quality (or fashion design) of the shirts that i currently own, and if i don't find a nike/ping/callaway/whatever shirt at that price range i will likely never purchase one. and dammit, I KNOW I LOOK GOOD
  6. good god that's so true!
  7. i am currently gaming a Nickent 7DX 3wood. i have always been brutal with my woods and hybrids. i have actually struck the ball well since acquiring the 7DX. for the price, i think it's pretty hard to beat
  8. so if the guy before the OP buys one, then there's no pressure, right?!
  9. i really TRY to "practice the right way". i think of it like free throws in basketball, or approaching the batters box in baseball...i can definitely see the value in developing a rythm and getting in a groove. i am probably better about practicing the right way at the beginning of my range sessions moreso than at the end.
  10. i use the gamer V2. i had used several other balls (from cheapo walmart wilsons to proV1s that i found along the way). i'm a high handicapper, so my swing/performance is very inconsistent. i assumed that the only way i could guage my consistency was if i settled on one ball. i didn't want to buy the cheapest ball out, but i knew better than going out and stocking up on proV1s when i know that i'm going to lose 3-5 balls each round. from my research, the gamer V2 was the best "bang for your buck" ball available. i actually enjoy the performance i'm seeing out of the gamer V2 so i don't plan on switching anytime soon. but when i can start to "demand performance" from my balls, then i will look to upgrade. right now, i have ZERO control over whether or not my ball checks up on a green or scoots across the green with tons of top spin one time i found like 4 proV1s on a single hole. i lost em all within the next 2 holes. then i found a nike range ball. i played the best back 9 of my short career with that ball. i couldn't lose it if i wanted to! LOL
  11. being relatively new to the sport, i like to think that i bring a mildly less traditional perspective to the table... i thought the video was hilarious. i didn't find it to be tasteless or lacking class. i see threads on this forum and others that center around figuring out "how do we grow the game of golf?" and i think that seeing players let their hair down a little bit helps grow the game. in case you didn't already know about some of the stereotypes of golf and golfers, i don't mind letting you in on them. the main knock on golf/golfers is that it's a super-serious game with super-serious people who take everything waaaay too super-serious. so for every kid you can find that enjoys that sort of environment, i can find 50 more kids who won't touch a golf club. a video like this can begin to help change the lens on golf/golfers. very few of us will make money with this sport (just like basketball, football, baseball, hockey, etc)...let's try and have some fun while playing
  12. i don't own any golf hats, but if i did, i would probably buy a hat brand that matches with my club manufacturer brand. the majority of my equipment is callaway, but i have mixed in some nickent equipment recently. currently i wear a "golf style" chicago white sox cap or a "golf style" indiana univ hat (drives my dad crazy because he is a purdue grad)
  13. i'm still relatively new to the sport. i believe that just about every major manufacturer has both "tour" clubs (for better players) and "game improvement" clubs (for guys like you and me). the cool thing about golf is that the 2nd hand market is ENORMOUS. there are guys/gals that trade out equipment on an annual basis. this means that you can get your hands on stuff that was deemed in 2011 or 2012 as "the best ever" FOR CHEAP. or you can get some clubs from around 2008-2010 for next to nothing. my iron set is a Callaway Fusion set (circa 2006?), and they work fine. (i spent 150 bucks on the irons and wedges). i have a Callaway FT9 driver ($40). i have an Odyssey White Hot #9 putter ($30). for roughly 200 bucks, i got a pretty decent starter set. i got everything from craigslist. as i get better, i will invest in some newer clubs. at this point, these irons work great for me. i'm a craigslist beast! download the craigslist app to your iphone/android and it will make searching even easier! if you have questions on a particular model, google them or check on this website (using the search feature). there is a boatload of info available (maybe too much!) hit em straight bro
  14. i hope my OP didn't come across as me shying away from golf galaxy. that definitely was not my intention. i guess i'm just wondering, with the large gap in swing speed results (which someone else pointed out was not that abnormal), was my fitting at golf galaxy accurate? or were the results i got from the various vendors at the golf expo accurate? for what it's worth, i was pleased with my experience at golf galaxy. the guy brought out $400 drivers along with some $150 drivers. he didn't try to "upsell" me on anything. i actually had the best results with my current driver/shaft setup. he was like "hey man, i'm not going to tell you to buy a new driver...just go get some lessons and get more consistent first" i appreciated that he didn't try to convince me that i NEEDED a new driver. it felt like an honest transaction
  15. i'm 33. while i do excercise regularly, it's mostly running, and very little weight lifting. i would imagine that my flexibility is improving, but i don't expect any major gains in physical strength. i do plan on taking more lessons (most likely starting in the next 30 days). currently, i play for fun, but i am a diehard competitor. simply breaking 100 isn't going to cut it for me...it will now but not for long i'm not trying to become a pro, but i don't wanna just go out and knock holes in the dirt 3 times a month either advise away kind sir!!
  16. so, it sounds like my half hour at golf galaxy was a waste of 30 bucks, huh? it's only $30 so i'm not heartbroken :) the guy at golf galaxy let me try 4 or 5 drivers, and i believe that he set all of them up with regular stiffness shafts. where do you recommend i go to get a "proper" fitting? golfsmith/golftec? a pro shop at a nearby course?
  17. a little background on me...i'm relatively new to the game of golf (a little less than 24 months). my first golf set was purchased off craigslist for $35 (driver, 3w, irons, wedges, putter, and stand bag). getting a whole set for 35 bucks gives you an idea of the caliber of equipment i was using. after taking a few lessons, i began purchasing some nicer (yet still very used) clubs. my current driver is a Callawy FT9 Tour neutral(10.5*) with a stiff fukikara shaft. when i hit it on the nose, it's a thing of beauty, but i lack the consistency in performance that i would like. obviously, some additional lessons would help, but it has been recommended to me to "GO GET FITTED" so, i went to the carolina golf expo a few weeks ago, and this is where the confusion began. i went to a golfsmith/golftec guy, and he put this vest on me and hooked me up to this machine. driver swing speed came in at 92-96mph. this was my first stop, and i didn't do much warming up. still at the expo...next stop was the nike booth. guy doesn't have the golfsmith vest for me to wear, but he has a pretty elaborate setup. swing speeds (according to this guy) were in the 98-102 range. still at the expo...next stop was the bridgestone ball fitting guys. i take some swings and they give me a printout that states my swing speed is in the 92-94 range 2 days later, i decide to go to my local golf galaxy location. i pay the 30 bucks for a driver fitting, and after several swings, my swing speed comes in in the 91-94 range so my question is WHO DO I TRUST? i wasn't swinging extra hard at any of the golf expo booths or the golf galaxy location...yet i had results ranging from 91-102 mph?! assuming my swing speed is in the low 90s, i would probably go with a regular flex. however, if i'm looking at a swing in the mid-upper 90s, shouldn't i go stiff? i enjoy golf enough that i plan on playing for a very long time. as i get better, should i expect my swing speed to improve drastically? (i'm 33yrs old, in pretty good shape, and a former baseball player...i could easily swing harder, but i lose all control when i do) thoughts/opinions?
  18. worked in marketing and PR for the last 8 years...getting paid to talk to people is SWEET!! spent a few years in municipal government working for the mayor of a major city...now i'm in the financial industry (plenty of opportunities for golf outings now!)
  19. the hard lesson i have learned with regards to EA sports games is that they don't change their games much from year to year. i tend to get more enjoyment with i skip years...madden 09, madden 11, madden 13...tiger 10, tiger 12, tiger 14... the only game that i buy EVERY year is the college football, and it usually adds one LITTLE BITTY feature change each time...it's tough to justify 65 bucks (sales tax inc) for the SAME game
  20. thanks for the info guys/gals. i am reassured after reading this
  21. soooo as long as it says "V2" then i'm good to go?
  22. i'm wondering the same thing. hell, how do i tell if i got the 2010 or 2012 version? i just bought two boxes...they were the black box, so i think they are the newer version of the ball (i thought the green box was the original) but i'm not as smart as i look, so...
  23. i'm still VERY wet behind the ears when it comes to the game of golf (been playing for around 14 months now), but wouldn't the Gamer fall into a the category of good "value ball"? when i think of the gamer, i think of a ball that is better than the walmart "wilson mesh bag-o-balls". i simply cannot justify spending ProV1 money on something that i'm likely to send into the lake. i had some ProV1s gifted to me back when i first started golfing. while new to the sport, i knew enough to realize that these were expensive balls. i promptly sent a half dozen into the lake/forest/never-never land. i decided that i would stop wasting balls, and pulled out a range ball that i had from my last practice trip. funny thing happened...i was no longer stressed out about losing an expensive ball because i was playing with a crappy, scuffed up range ball... ...and i played the final 10 holes with that one ball!! i am looking for a budget ball that will outperform the "wilson mesh bag-o-balls" but that also wont make my anus tighten up everytime i get ready to tee off for fear of losing a ball that costs as much as a decent lunch
  24. @ bobleeswagger...i have gone back and forth in my head about putting an NRA sticker on my car. i decided against it for the same reason that i disagree with putting a Apple logo sticker or a Pioneer/Alpine decal on my car...i don't want you to break into my car because YOU THINK i might have one of those products in there. of course, i have always lived in major metropolitan areas, so the crime may be a little different where i am. shoot straight, stay safe!
