  1. It's said to see good companies go under but golf is full of these stories. Sonartec comes to mind, but there will be a company that will rise up and take Nickents place. Golf is a tough market, when the economy tanks the way it has your bound to see companies fail.
  2. I agree I don't think it will be that big of deal. Yesterday hit a gap wedge out of a ditch with high grass thinking the ball would land and roll out.....it didn't it spun back about a foot leaving a 25 footer. SO I don't think the grooves are going to be a big deal, will probably actually help in some instances, maybe.
  3. I've looked at the new wedges but I don't see the need to purchase anything new. I'll still be able to use my wedges in my clubs tournements, and since my chances of playing on tour are non existant I think I'm ok with what I have. I also heard an interview with Mr. Vokey where he said he feels wedges break in to a players swing. So in not so many words no I'm keeping what I have.
  4. One of the coldest rounds I ever played was in Vegas 2 years ago, but I'm jealous of your short wearing winter golf apparel.
  5. I usually have Green Day, the Verve, Dave Matthews, U2 stuff like that.
  6. Well pimping jackets are a must so don't leave that at home. I were stuff like FJ coldweather mocks, when it gets reall cold a cashmere sweater over the mock and raingear with a knit hat. Ohio gets much colder then virginia though and when its snowing its snowboard time.
  7. Atleast if you missed a few short putts there you could always say "I know I 3 putt 3 times but I was being shot at."
  8. This is a really tuff question, I never played United Kingdom so I guess I never played a true links course. That said I've play many links style course from california to the OBX. I really enjoy Links style course and have scored good and bad on them, but I think I'm more comfortable on a Parkland course. I will say I love the look of desert courses but never seem to play them well, probably a lot closer to wind condition in theUnited Kingdom.
  9. Thats funny are they coming out with snowballs so we can get traction in the snow. I personally switch balls in the fall and earlier spring just because the course conditions don't demand a high spin ball in the North East. The greens a soft so the balls not going to do much after it hits anyway.
  10. I think its strange in the begining of most golfers golfing lives they work on usually downswing then backswing. But I seem to here more of the better players I know working on their followthrough.
  11. I'm always working on wedge play, distance control and ball flight. Other than that I'm working on rotating rightside thru impact using it to control launch angle of shot.
  12. Justin Leonard reminds me of Steve Carell from The OFFICE.
  13. I can't imagine not having my hybrid in my bag. I can't imagine not having a hybrid in my bag, the ease of use the extra distance they provide. One of my best golfing friends hates them, he can't seem to find one that works for him. He can also hit a 2 iron with the best of them so it really doesn't hurt him that much. I have seen that some people don't like hybrids but I think its more about finding one that works for you. One manufactors hybrid might not work for you but I would recommend not giving up and keep looking till you find on that works. Also if your a high handicapper I can't imagine not having one in your bag, I think its more of a visual thing for most people, hybrids aren't the prettiest things out there.
  14. I'm not sure Erik advocates a slide? He may advocate a bump to the left or a shift I'm not sure a slide is what he recommends. Also I want to add its not a good swing thought or swing move to hang on your right foot/side.
  15. My pre round putting is more about feeling the speed of the green. Start out with a some 20 ft then 30 40 then hit some small putts and go. I'm not big on doing my circle drill because I want to walk on the course feeling like I'm putting good. I don't want miss short putts then go on the course with that in my head. If I putt bad in the round then I ll work on it when I practice the next day.
  16. As usual Erik is spot on with his swing analysis. For me I find with my full swings my head behind the ball insures the ball will draw. The reason for this if your head stays behind your rotating not sliding and rotating is what your looking for. If your sliding it is much more difficult to return the club to the ball consistantly. As with Erik's post about wedges he's right your head is more over the ball. Rotation Rotation Rotation. I think hits hard to learn how much the golf swing has to do with just turning around your spine. It is an unusual move to make, but once you start getting it, it will make all the difference.
  17. I don't listen to music while playing I do get songs in my head while playing but never really listen to my ipod. I do listen to my ipod on the practice range, usually Joe Bonamassa or anything with a smooth rythmn I do like to listen to music before one of my clubs tourneys, something that gets you feeling good. Ipod on shuffle is cool on the range but Disturbed is hard to hit balls to.
  18. I'll look for a link but Dave Stockton in his book talks about delivering the putter from the inside trying to put a draw spin on the ball. He also talks about the putter chasing the ball in the hole. One of the things that was lost in my move 4 yrs ago to our new home was his book.
  19. Isn't this just a new twist to Dave Stockton style of putting?
  20. The point about using an iphone or whatever else some one could use is the time being added to the round. It already takes most people to long to play 18 holes, if you allow all these devices that's just more time added to the round. If all that happend was a player would check it and say hey its wrong I'll just play my normal shot that would be fine. What is going to happen is a player checks its and it is different than what he feels so he'll check it again, and again. Then another app to see why this app isn't working, where does it end? A yardage book, laser, or GPS isn't enough come on.
  21. I sure hope it is. Thats what I want during my club championship a fellow competitor getting wind directions and speed. Shouldn't golfers have to decifer the wind on their own?
  22. Keeping your head still is important but the amount of movement also depends on what swing your making. A good rule of thumb is the short or slower the swing the steadier the head. Driver swing is probably going to have more movement than a chip or a putt. I'll bet Gulbis doesn't have that kind of movement on a pitch, chip or putt.
  23. I usually play with atleast 16 handicap or better, but a few times a year I play with some one worse. Normally it doesn't bother me as long as the player is fast and knows proper etiquette. I was once told by one of the best players I know "I like the company on the golf course but really I'm out here for me."
  24. I believe the worst golf course in the universe is on the fourth moon of Jupiter. The worst in my area would be ash hills aka a## hills.
  25. I agree sometimes the littlest change can cause the worst results for sometime. I think its really important to believe in what your being taught just for that reason.
