  2. A yardage measuring device is one of the best purchases that you can make in my opinion. Knowing how far you hit you clubs and distances to object and hazzards increases your confidence in the shot and proper club selection. Rangefinders and gps units both have their pros and cons and each individual needs to make a decision which will be better for their game. I have decided on a gps unit. I play 90% of my rounds with my father who has a bushnell rangefinder so the decision was easy. But I still think I would have gone with the gps because knowing the hidden hazzards will save me some strokes, shot measurement and stats tracking will help me understand how my game is going and easy lay up distances for good course management. Also gps units seem to be a little cheaper then rangefinders.
  3. The Q-Star has been my go to ball for the last few rounds. Really liked the distance I was seeing off all the clubs and the driver was very straight as well. Was able to get the ball to check up fairly well on the softer greens but most greens now are too hard for me to not have some roll out. I played the E6 last summer and wasn't overly impressed with the ball at the time but last season was my first full season playing. I should give them another go this season and get a newer opinion since I have become a much better ballstriker and the straightness might really help with my bad shots.
  4. I have been using the Nike Dry Fit Tours for the last few seasons. They breath really well and keep my hands cool, the leather is solf and they last a really long time.
  5. The cavity back AW that is set to 50 degrees so I went with a 54 and 58 degree wedges to fill the gaps. I find the 58 versatile enough for play around the green and also provide good full swing distances.
  6. I have decided to go with a GPS unit because I think it has a greater impact on the game for someone of my ability. Knowing the distance to a lay up distance or the front, middle and back of the green will greatly assist in club selection and course management whereas I am not accurate enough that knowing the exact distance to the pin really helps.
  7. I voted for the Q-Stars. They have been my ball of choice the last few rounds and I really like them. Although I really want to try E5's to compared the spin around the greens.
  8. The Q-Star has been my ball of choice for the last few rounds and the only ball this year I have bought more then the original dozen I have bought. Played the ProV1X 1 time and it was a quality ball but I can't see spending the $54 a dozen that they go for up here when a dozen Q-Stars go for $25. I find the ball goes straight off the tee and I just shoot for the middle of the green most shots anyway so I don't need them to stick.
  9. I have to agree with those that say stick with the same ball type of ball as much as you can. Its a hell of a lot easier to judge how hard you need to hit the ball and judge green speen when you are sonstantly using the same ball. Now I am not saying that beginners need to be using tour level balls but there is no reason to not be using some of the cheaper (less then $20 per dozen) balls that all ball manufacturers make.
  10. I have played the Q-Star for my last 2 rounds. Really like them. Straight off the tee and decent distance. Just got a new wedge so can't judge green holding yet compared to some of the other balls I have tried. I also really like the yellow.
  11. Picked up a set (4-AW) Nike Victory Red cavity back irons. Almost done with my new club purchases.
  12. Played my first 18 of the season with my new RBZ driver and 3W. Up until i started to get tired 16 and 17 the ball flight was dead straight and there was some good distance gain. I am glad I made these purchases now that I can see real results just not the launch monitor results.
  13. I use a Nike Methos Core putter. Love the feel of hitting the ball with it and it seems to be easier for me to line of the putts with it.
  14. I recently scored a 1 over par with just a putter at the local putt putt golf course. If not for the damn windmill on 17 I would have been even par.
  15. Picked up a RBZ 3W and a Nike Method Core putter.
  16. Picked up a 9.5 stiff with the Xcon5 shaft. Had a good feel to it and I can use a little extra distance it provided.
  17. I am looking for a new set if irons as well and have a similar handicap as you and those 2 clubs were the 2 that based on previous testing of Nike irons and online reviews of the Burner 2.0 that I really thought I would like. Didn't really like either one. But after testing out about 15-20 sets of irons over the last couple weeks I have found that almost all company's make good irons and the performance is very similar. Either one of those choices if you hit them well will be forgiving and provide maybe a little increased distance as well. VRs cast or forged?
  18. We only get 5 maybe 6 months of golf and only 3 were its nice enough to wear shorts so I prefer to wear them. Will wear pants if required.
  19. - An old Callaway Warbird my girlfriends dad found at a garage sale for $5 and my dad and I threw a new grip on it he had laying around. - A hand me down 3 wood from my dad that cost me nothing. - Callaway 3H and 4H I borrowed off my brother. - 3I to PW hand me downs from my dad. Unknown brand. - SW hand me down from my dad. Unknown brand. - Completely illegal wegde my girlfriends dad found at garage sale. $20. - A hand me down putter from my dad. It used to have a company name (not a golf company) on it but it has since worn off. A total of around $25. Usually spend more on a round of golf then the clubs I am playing with. This season I will have a new set of clubs however.
  20. In my opinion golf clubs like any other piece of sporting equipment should be bought for the current skill level and not above it. If SGI irons increase your enjoyment in the game and your confidence you will improve more rapidly then if you used the clubs your less confident in.
  21. Working on my long irons (3,4). Have lost the ability to hit these clubs this summer and have started to work a little bit more with these clubs at the range the last few nights to regain some lost distance and get rid of the slice that has developed.
  22. Shirt and a pair of shorts. Also picked up some birdie balls for practicing.
  23. Working on a few different areas of my game since I have really only started playing with a little more consistency the past 6 playable months or so. Drives. - Solid contact. Shorting my swing on a few holes in order to make solid contact. Even if I shorten my swing I have been playing some shorting courses lately so I am usually at a playable distance. - Avoid looking up. Happened once today while playing a 9 and resulted in a 75 yard duffed shot. Long Irons/Fairway Woods - Consistency. Good consistent swing so that I'm not wasting shots out there. - Getting the ball up in the air a little more. Wedges/Short Irons - Getting the ball up in the air. - Avoid "line driving" the ball over the green while short chipping it. Putting - Avoiding 3 putts. Not trying to sink long shots but get it close enough for a make able second putt.
  24. Bought a dozen Noodle Easy Distance+ golf balls, an blue Under Armour shirt and a pair of white plaid Ping golf shorts.
