Which Putter do you prefer?
Stuart replied to Saturday Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Seemore FGP. They are not a big name brand like Scotty or Odyssey, but they have proven results (in the right hands)...lol. :) -
Guys thanks for your advice. I will definitely try it. This game is so addictive, I think I'd basically try anything to break this habit. :)

Should you watch the putter head?
Stuart replied to Pimpslap's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I do, but just for the first foot maybe, and I make sure that my head remains still. Should I? I have no idea. :) -
Thanks for the awesome breakdown. I agree with the idea that number 4 could help me alot. I took my first lesson this Thursday past when I was in London. It was pretty great. I worked on a launch monitor and got to see video of my swing from three angles. I've got to tell you, it was pretty crappy, even though the results are obviously pretty good on certain days. The good news is that I had a pretty good idea of what I was doing wrong, and this lesson totally confirmed it. Its really inspiring to actually see your swing in front of you, side by side with swings of pros and better players and be able to see exactly what you're doing wrong. On the subject of my handicap, the guy who calculates handicaps at my club uses the Atlantic system. I am still a bit confused as to what a handicap represents. I'm definitely not a 5 handicap in the sense that my average score is 75. I'd say its more like 78-80. For instance, the week before last, I shot a 73 on Saturday followed by a 91 on the Wednesday. Three weeks before that I shot a 1 under par 69, which had my totally stoked, followed by 2 weeks of 80's that almost drove me crazy.

Started off with graphite when I first started. And that was a HUGE mistake. Steel all the way. X Stiff.

Seemore FGP. Love it!

I had a set of Titleist oil can wedges (52, 56, and 60) but played my friends Titleist Chromes while mine were being regripped, and found his nice at address. The Chrome also seems thinnner and more blade like which I found gave me more confidence. I now have a set of Titleist Tour Chromes (50, 56, 60) and love them.

Very true. Think I'm getting the hang of the wrist situation. That being said, I was 1 over after 13 holes yesterday. Then took a 2 double bogey's followed by a quad. Golf...the other four letter word. :)

I had bought the Ping Rapture 3 wood when I started playing along with the Rapture irons and driver. Anyways because that particular 3 wood is so large and difficult to hit off the deck, I hardly ever hit the thing. As a result I ditched it when I switched to my new irons. I hit my 2i hybrid which is 17 degrees about 240 (when I hit it well) so I haven't run into too many situations where I really miss a 3 wood. Obviously if I could hit my 3 wood as well as my hybrid, I would have one in my bag, but 3 wedges seems more important to my scoring.

Thanks for that advice. I went out yesterday and tried to just feel my way around my swing...and quite amazingly had a very good ball striking day. I think I'm going to take a temporary break from all the mechanics and just allow myself to hit the ball. As for my swing...my brother played golf as a junior and was pretty awesome. He had regular lessons from Jimmy Ballard amongst others and has a beautiful classical swing. Anyways he's always harping on about how ugly my swing is....so I guess its in my head....anyways most of the time my drives fly by his by at least 20 to 30 yards and they hit the fairway more often too....lol....so I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Thanks for your advice. I never thought of that, but will certainly try that next time I'm in the gym as i've just started training again. I appreciate your feedback.

I think you are quite correct. When I shot my 69, i kept asking the guy i was playing with to check out my swing. And each time he would say, you were parallel or just about parallel, and to me it seemed like i was making a half swing. I think because i over-swing, i have this mental block now about what a good swing feels like.

Ok. Here's the deal. I've been playing for just over 15 months. During that time I've improved my scoring hugely, but I still have a pretty crappy swing. I can't seem to stop breaking my wrists at the top of my swing. I have the feeling that I need to really cock my wrists and I seem to be quite literally overdoing it. I wonder if this doesn't stem from me, not being very flexible, and unable to make a big shoulder turn like some of the pro's out there. As a result I am unable to get the driver back to parallel without bending my left arm and over-cocking my wrists. I frequently go past parallel though with this as I lose all sense of where the club finishes its arc when loading. The other day I managed to stop doing this for one round and had my first under par round ever. I tried to feel as if I wasn't cocking my wrists at all, which seemed to produce what would be deemed the correct amount of wrist cock. The problem is that I've been trying unsuccessfully to imitate that feeling for two weeks without any luck. My mind tells me that I'm making a half swing and as I go to transition to my downswing, my body panics and tries to get handsy as if fearing that i don't have enough power otherwise. The weird thing is on that same day that I did successfully stop doing this, I was hitting the ball longer than ever before. Does anybody have any ideas how I can overcome this once and for all? I'm going crazy here.

On shorter Par 3's I rarely tee up the ball at all. On longer ones (5,4,3 iron) I tee up the ball about a 1/4 inch. I haven't yet found my "way" of doing things and do quite frequently change up my routine depending on how I'm feeling that day. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I can attest to that. It will change its color quite quickly without any help. At least mine did, but I guess the salt air down here might have helped speed up the process. I think TGW.com still has some in stock. They were selling them for $69.99, but without the head cover. I got two of them, just because of the price. :)

The only complaint anybody could have about the Vokey's is that they chew balls...and I can live with that....for the price of my ball sitting down next to the hole like its got Velcro attached to it.

Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound. The best grip ever.

TPC.....all the way. There's nothing to think about. Easy decision.

On "Taking your Practice Swing to the Ball"
Stuart replied to DaveLeeNC's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have the exact same problem. My practice swings are picture perfect and my real swings are quite different. Getting them to be identical is my next big project. I"ll let you know how I fare with this over the next two weeks that I have off, as I'll be playing every day. -
Obviously from my signature you can tell I love the 695cb's. They are awesome clubs and have that blade look at address. The 735's and 755's are also really great clubs. If you check out the Titleist site and see what the tour players are playing with, you will see that no one set really dominates. You can't go wrong with either of the above three. I think the main thing will be ball flight. If you already hit the ball low then the cb's are probably not for you.

Left Wrist. Flat, Bowed or Cupped?
Stuart replied to Jockstrap's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I would imagine that most of you have more experience than I, and know more about what the pro's do, etc., but so far I've only really seen Fred Couples with a significantly bowed left wrist at the top of the swing. Tiger, Sergio and Luke Donald, and many others seem to have a flat wrist at the top, which to me makes the swing simpler. -
Left Wrist. Flat, Bowed or Cupped?
Stuart replied to Jockstrap's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have been playing with a cupped left wrist since I started and have just this last week been trying to flatten my wrist at the top of my swing. I have a fairly neutral (almost weak) left hand grip and I'm not totally sure if my right hand is neutral also. Anyways it seems to me that I'm pretty much totally cupping my right wrist now to keep my left flat. Is that what it feels like to you? -
I would have to say that anybody who plays the 695mb's who isn't a scratch golfer is just making the game harder for themselves. I can imagine that maybe this doesn't apply to 1 or 2 people but are you really those 1 or 2 people.

best irons for single digit handicap
Stuart replied to Beach Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Played my first round with my new Titleist 695cb's X100 shafts today. I've been playing the last two weeks with my buddies 695cb S300 shafts. I really love these clubs. Such a nice look when your addressing the ball and feels awesome when you hit it right. Very penetrating trajectory and the x stiff shafts give me extra confidence. I really like my 755's but these are that much neater and sweeter to hit. -
I've had a Seemore FGP for a couple of months now and my putting has improved quite a bit. I feel more confident over the ball and that is due in part to the minimalist look when you're over the ball, and also to the fact that it is easy to square the putter face. I got mine at tgw.com for $69. You can't go wrong with that. They make a more expensive milled version of the FGP, but I actually really like the cheaper one.
