Definitely John Daly and Geoff Ogilvy....maybe Woody Austin too? Don't agree with Rickie Fowler and Keegan Bradley, Rickie's stuff is awesome and Keegan's is just normal really..

How much is your golf set worth?
Aleks7243 replied to billysandy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Let's see... Driver - £100 (rrp: £260) 3 Wood - £75 (used, rrp: £140) Hybrid - £80 (ex-demo, rrp: £120) Irons - £250 (ex-demo, rrp: £450) Wedges Total - £130 (2 new, 2 with irons, rrp: £250) Putter - £95 (used, rrp: £195) Bag - £60 (ebay, rrp: £90) So...total paid = £790, total rrp = £1505 The lesson here is not to buy new clubs! -
I reckon if I really put my mind to it I could break 90, mid 80's maybe. I'm normally good with fast greens and I could probably reach most of the par 4's, or at least only be wedging it on.

Annoying Things Golfers Say and Do on the Course
Aleks7243 replied to Lag Rag's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I can't stand it when people laugh sarcastically after hitting a bad shot People that complain that you haven't shouted "Fore!" when the ball isn't really anywhere near them Also, I've played with a few people who, when looking for my ball in the rough, have actually pulled out their phone to time 5 minutes! Some people, eh... -
GPS vs Laser Rangefinder
Aleks7243 replied to greenail's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
have a new one out that does both! They won't win any prizes for the screen interface, but it does the job as far as I can see (Borrowed one the other day, it worked great) Obviously it doesn't have all the features of a dedicated GPS system, but if all you want is the distance to the hole and various other points on the course, you can't go wrong. Here it is ~ http://www.bushnellgolf.com/hybrid/laser_gps.cfm -
Not too far off everyone else really, about 145-155 yards depending on the lie etc.

What do we think of these clubs...?
Aleks7243 replied to Aleks7243's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Here we are - ignore the websites, I just did an image search: -
I'm in the market for a new set of irons to replace my 3 year old MX-19's (perfectly good clubs, but not really what I need anymore) I've tried quite a few and ended up with the Razr X Tour's, the CG16 Tour's and the R9 TP's Others that look attractive are the Idea Black CB2's - but being in the UK, I can't find anywhere to hit them! Has anyone used any of these irons, and what do you think about them? Or do you have any other suggestions? PS - I'm trying to stay south of £600 (about $1,000) if possible

What cool social/custom rules have you played under?
Aleks7243 replied to Lofty Lefty's topic in Rules of Golf
Played an interesting one the other day - if you had 3 putts, the forfeit was to play the entire next hole using nothing but a lob wedge (this made for some high scoring!) Also (although it's not really a social rule) I came across an interesting situation last week, in which a single birch tree stood squarely in the centre of the putting green, right in the line of my intended putt! I simply moved the ball to one side, but upon consultation of the local pro afterwards, it transpired that had I been playing a tournament, I would have received a 2-shot penalty as the tree was not a manmade object (i.e I should have played the ball even with the tree in the way!) It was quite amusing, anyhow :D -
For the improving golfer, the better option by far is to get a neutral-bias club (or a least one with adjustability) and work on changing the swing to hit it straight. For the 'seasoned' golfer that has established a swing and doesn't really want to change it, draw or fade-bias clubs can be a good idea, depending on the golfer's natural shot shape. If you tend to hit it straight, I wouldn't bother as a biased club could induce a hook/slice. But for someone who has a distance and direction sapping fade/slice, a draw-bias club is probably a good idea. Usually fade-bias clubs are only required by better players (eg. 8 handicap and below) as they are more workable. :D

Hmm... it would have to be one of two: Downhill par 4 to an elevated green, about 460 yards with a bad crosswind. Pulled my tee shot into some rough about 330 yards down but way below the level of the green, leaving me unable to see the flag with 2 bunkers protecting the green right on my line in. Pulled out a 9 iron and stiffed it, flying the bunkers and finishing 2 feet past the hole for birdie. :) Or... long 510 yard par 5, slightly uphill but with wind. Flew my drive about 290 straight into a fairway bunker, with a cluster of trees positioned right between me and the green about 30 yards away. It's a 2 tier green sloping away with OOB just 15 yards over the back - danger, what danger? Went for my trusty Burner rescue and nailed it out the bunker, pitching just short of the green and rolling on to about 8 feet. Missed it for eagle, but eh! :D

most overrated clubs/brands? most underrated?
Aleks7243 replied to dmband8985's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think some of the most underrated clubs are the mizuno mp series of woods - they often get overshadowed by their sublime forged irons, so people see the woods as no good simply because they don't match up to the irons - while the fact is, they're still very good clubs. Also I think Cleveland clubs (aside from their wedges) get overlooked a lot - especially their fairway woods, which I think are the best you can buy south of the £150 mark. A lot of people have mentioned Adams as being underrated - I'm not sure they are, just that they're less widely marketed. I think most would agree that their irons and hybrids are superb. In terms of overrated clubs, I wouldn't look much further than the new Titleist 910 driver - from what I can tell, it's just a pretty decent club inflated by lots of marketing and hype. Scotty Cameron putters are also overrated and WAY overpriced. You could buy a very similar putter made by a different brand, that would be just as good, for just over half the value of a SC :D -
Hello everyone! I'm Tyler, from England in the UK. I've been golfing about 4 years - handicap steadily coming down! :)

Had a remarkable 79, considering that on par 3's I has a shocker (I went 4, 5, 6, 5) plus I was without a 6 iron (wrapped it round a tree about a week ago - a good shot, but I'm not sure the club felt the same!) Pleased overall though - tough course too - http://www.westhovegolfclub.info/course.htm :)
