Cg14. Vokeys lack a lot of feel for me and their standard grinds (or lack there of) is unappealing.
-
Your backswing takes a pretty bad path up. Like someone else said, you need to swing a little more over your shoulder aka flatter. It looks like you're trying to smash the ball. Concentrate on getting a better rhythm and balance. You fall forward after your swings it looked like.
-
I don't buy it. If you're an 11 handicap and you can consistently hit the ball that far (and in play) then your short game must be ABSOLUTELY terrible. 315 average with driver and 260 average with 5 wood? If you mean... "When I play a downhill hole 575 yard par 5 with gale force winds at my back and absolutely nut 2 shots, I can reach the green in 2." Then I might believe you. It's stupid to post your absolute maxed out gravity & wind-aided yardages on an internet forum. Get real. I'm going to pretend your first post said: "I hit my driver on average about 290 and my 5-wood on average about 240.. do you think I need a 3-wood?" To which I will respond "Damn you kill the ball. If you're a strong fairway wood player and a 3-wood is more accurate/reliable for you than a driver then I say get one for iffy tee shots where you can still get it out there 255-265 (just guesstimating here) or if your driver is misbehaving and you have the space for it." I will take my words back if you have gotten on a trackman and averaged those distances or you've kept an accurate track of your distances with something as accurate as a gps unit or something.

I call bs on your distances. But let's pretend you can hit it that far. No, you don't need a 3 wood then.

Should I keep my Callaways or switch to Titleist
jcrew replied to Gone.Golfing's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
sounds like you have the money to blow. go ahead and demo them and if you really like them better then go for it. otherwise, no need to have an all titleist bag. -
your practice swing looked better. club got further back and your finish was higher. rhythm seemed better. swing overall seemed a little bit too flat imo.

What is the widest lake you would dare attempt to hit over?
jcrew replied to HytrewQasdfg's topic in Golf Talk
I would feel confident getting over a 235 yard lake with no wind 9/10 times. Once we get to 245-250 I think I could only get 1 out of 10 over. -
Don't worry about getting backspin. It'll come with better technique. You have to hit down on the ball and make ball first contact. Having a ball stop exactly where you carry it is definitely not a bad thing to have with a lob wedge shot.

I've had extensive experience with 3 3-woods. 2007 Cobra Speed LD F 15.5 w/ stock nv Definitely quite easy to hit, face is a bit deep for my liking off the deck, stock shaft was 55g and if I went at it at all, the ball would balloon-I didn't like it, decently workable, great off the tee. Titleist 906F4 15.5 w/ titleist diamana blue Great off the deck, shallow face, a bit less forgiving than the cobra, very high ball flight and not the longest (probably in part due to the shaft), very workable. Sonartec GS Tour 15 w/ stock red Ice My favorite face height - in between the F4 and speed LD F. Perfect for the tee and off the deck. Forgiveness is in between the cobra and titleist - definitely forgiving enough. Great balance between workability and forgiving - has a great amount of both. Flight is quite high and distance is in between the cobra and titleist but closer to the cobra - I'm planning to switch out the shaft which will help.

Which loft do you play and suggest?
jcrew replied to SpacklersEdge's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
a lot of launch angle is determined by the swing. I tee the ball up decently high (3/4 of the ball above the crown) and swing up into the ball so I launch it pretty high with my driver (actually getting excessive at times where it is an actual swing flaw - excessive reverse c finish). My swing speed is around 100. I get by with a 9.5 905r with a stiff nv and I get a nice mid penetrating trajectory. I've also been using a 10.5 d2 w/ ys6 and 10.5 r5 w/ nv and I hit those way high I'm sure my distance is all carry. that being said, going solely by your swing speed, I would say 9.5 or 8.5. -
you have a 10 yard deep green? that is a shallow green. don't rant. switch your ball. a taylormade tp red ldp should help that problem.
-
I can't comment on the hibore xl tour but I can say with a fair bit of certainty that you'll probably benefit from added forgiveness on off center hits but I'm not sure whether you'll find a huge distance gain on center hits, especially if you have a shaft that fits your swing well.
-
I would definitely recommend the taylormade z tp. plenty of stopping powers and a versatile enough grind and shape. Definitely more/better feel than the vokeys for me. I would definitely consider the cg14 over the cg12 and I wouldn't discount the callaway x-forged from your list either.

If you could buy a new set of irons, what would you buy?
jcrew replied to oooasdf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have 3 that I really like but I'd have to extensively demo them some more to choose a clear winner. Srixon I701 tour 4-pw Bridgestone J36 CB pw-8, PC 7-4 Macgregor MT Pro C 4-pw -
good for the game. most other sports have a uniform. golf's uniform is hardly a uniform. I just don't ever want to see people wearing wife beaters playing golf. I'm okay with t-shirts and any other collared shirts and mock golf shirts. I hate cargo shorts and jeans don't really belong on the golf course (unless its really cold and you're wearing multiple layers I think it's somewhat acceptable).

YES! Struggle to find a putter has ended!
jcrew replied to CG031's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you putt well with the yes!, why switch it out for a scotty? Just because they are "scotty camerons" doesn't mean you have to have one. If you're looking to drop more money and feel inadequate with a cheaper (than a scotty) putter regardless of whether it works for you, get a callie forged or something. yes! putters are nice. I have one myself. -
Strongest: 135 in (easy 9 through full and partial wedge shots) Weakest: fairway wood and driver (i can hit it nice and smooth 235 but if I try to put any more into it then I make completely inconsistent contact.. this is keeping in mind that 2 weekends ago I was striping it 255+ everytime.

nickent 3dx square (tour if you want) 89.99 http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/nicken...re-driver.html you can check out their other drivers but I doubt you'll find anything really solid for under 60

Your height and your putter length
jcrew replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
5'7 35" I choke down about an inch - I'm planning on cutting it down an inch anyway. I stand pretty tall with my putting stroke however. My yes is 33.5" which works out fine but I do have to bend over a tad more -
Taylormade R7 TP irons - Your Thoughts?
jcrew replied to $2 Nassau's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The feel on center hits isn't as good as my MP-30s but I'll tell you it feels like the sweet spot is twice as big. I think they give enough feedback and are workable enough but definitely very forgiving. As a legit 12.9 handicap you should have no problem with them at all. -

Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread
jcrew replied to JEWMAH9701's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Don't just jump on to the scotty cameron train. Get one if you try a bunch of putters and really like the scotty better. If you're looking for more traditional looking milled putters, try (in addition to the scottys) bettinardis, oydssey black series, and ping redwoods. Also give rife, yes, and other odysseys a try. I was given my scotty by my dad but if I had 300 to drop on a putter right now, I think I would rather spend it on a yes! callie f forged or a bettinardi putter. -
irons similar to the callaway x-20
jcrew replied to eurofighter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
similar ones are the taylormade r7s, cleveland cg golds, srixon i-701s (these would probably be my choice of these 3 I mentioned and the x-20s but I would get i-701 tours) -
70s-80s... very dry/low humidity...slight breeze...slightly cloudy but still fairly sunny

get the mizzys unless you're on a budget. you can't lose with the m685s
