  1. My dad does this, and its always down to overswing. Now, i dont want to say that you overswing but i would'nt be supprised if you did. This was a common problem in my consistancy, my Pro said "James, you overswinging again and collapsing the wrist" and i would say "you sure? Doesnt feel like i am" Swing that bit to much and your right leg straightens, weight moves to the left and you lose your spine angle. First i would say try hitting half shots and work you way back up to your full swing ( I would say try and work out your full swing to the pelez clock system. For me, my full swing is my arms poniting to 10:30). On your practice swings, on the follow through take a step forward. Take 2 or 3 practice swings trying to keep to a half swing and a step forward on the follow through, then try hit a ball and see if its helped.
  2. Hi, Having had this problem with my 3 wood and driver recently (3W used to be my secreat weapon aswell) i know how you feel and how frustrating it can be. In my case it was pretty simple and it just required going back to a few basics! Setup: I put the ball inline with the logo on my left breast/chest Posture: I was setting up like i was about to hit a 7i. bit too much knee flex, bit too much bend from the hips. So i setup nice and tall and with a little less knee flex. Backswing: Slowed the backswing down a bit, i found with the incorrect posture and a quick backswing i was swaying making it difficult to get in the correct position to deliver the club. Top of the swing: This was the biggest factor i would say. At the top of my swing i was letting the club go really flat. Its hard to explain, i was getting to the top and my wrist was collapsing i think the term is. If you can imagine the swing plane as a hoolahoop around you at a 45 degree angle. Lets say for example thats the perfect swing place. With a flat plane, change the angle to say 15 degrees. If you can picture that, its quite easy to imagine how your going to deliver the club head. Its going be comming to the ball low and from around your body which = low hook. To sum it up. Start from scratch. Get a nice posture sorted, place the ball off the logo on the left side of your shirt. Slow the back swing and get it more verticle. For the backswing think "Back and up" If you get to verticle, the ball will slice but you should see much better hight ! and a few tweaks will see you on the proper plane
  3. I think i struggle to hold off the release i think, and roll over to square at impact. Will try weaking the grip a bit further failing that, will try and really hold off rolling the forearms through impact!
  4. Glad to see you had a swift response. I dont see the point asking for free stuff as the course wasnt the problem, its just the staff speak to people like shit which is not on!
  5. Been practicing on the range hitting fades, so far so good up to a 5i. But, i cant seem to do it on the course! What happens, the ball goes straight, so i end up to the left of the green. I usually just exagerate and out to in swing path, but should there be other things in the setup to help promote the current technique?
  6. Im not too bothered about the weather, its just the light! But, good news is getting a corporate membership through the company. So thats saves money and hassle! Dont see many refer to winter as "winter solstice" i take it you have read into the Mayans etc?
  7. I got heated just reading that, i be straight on the phone or write a letter of complaint to who ever it needed to be sent. Just explain from the start (Even included being undercharged, yet correcting the person who served and paid the correct amount due to respect of the golf club). Then say you were told to tee off as the Pro was on the phone and could not be bothered to give you a recipet. Then, as the ranger was doing his job. Called the Pro who came out and spoke/treat you like shit. If he did that to someone who was having a bad day themselves, and went for a quick 9 to relax. That Ass Pro could of had a blackeye
  8. And i have no intention of hanging up the clubs! My plan for summer 08 is to get down to a 5 HCDP. And i think its very possible, i just have to sort out my Driver as it is a massive weakpoint in my game! I rarely use it as currently in practice i hit 1/10 good so i just leave it on the course. But, what do you guys do in the winter? In the UK when the clocks go back, its usually pretty dark around 5. So, playing weekend mornings is going to have to fill my addition untill Feb. Of course, i will have days off to go and play, but currently playing 2-3 times a week and the range maybe once a week too. Would it be worth joining a club? After playing some of the top clubs in Wales, playing on local public courses is just no fun. A) Slow play B) Conitions, some are nice but the greens are nothing compared to proper golf clubs where membership is required C) Winter weekends the publics are crammed full of players, most not so good so delays expect....
  9. I play the X-18 and enjoy playing them. Not the best club to look at at address but there still my babies. Will be upgrading to Mizuno MP-60's though, demo'ed them with a stiff shaft. Not only do they look fantastic, also gained 8-10 yards :)
  10. With the Irons i usually put it a ball width further back then a normal shot. Choke down a little on the club too. Also, go down a club to make up the distance. 3/4 backswing and 3/4 follow through keeping the hands low
  11. Was good to watch, i thought Tiger eagle putt on the 18th was on line to go in, just lacked the distance. Tiger & Phil playoff would of been quite good to see!
  12. Regarding Q1. Hybrids are only just taking over, but most good players and pro's prefer the workability of the Iron still and only carry 1 hybrid to help with long shots out of the rough Q3. The short game is easier with more wedges. I prefer to always hit a shot at my 100% swing. Why make it harder and have to open up the 1 wedge you have to get over a bunker and only have to swing at 77%. When a 60 degree LW will do it with a normal setup and a full swing? Most shots are made up in the short game (Within 125 yards) so having the tools to save shots there is why most carry more wedges. 120 Yards out? Hit the PW, 100 yards? Gap Wedge! etc etc Also, some people might want alot of backspin, so choose a high lofted club to try and help generate more spin
  13. 90% of the time when i shank the ball its because: A) Too close to the ball B) Its also to far back in my stance Try those basic things first instead of changing your swing. Hopefully its one of the above so its a simple fix! When your hitting the ball well, its quite easy to forget the little basics like ball position when your on a roll, it can get overlooked!
  14. I dont own them but have played with them when i demoed them. Looking to upgrade and i played a few with them. Not much different to my X-18's really. Hit them straight, ball flight was more penertrating i would say, not reaching as high as my X-18. But, i was playing with Stiff shafts in the X-20's and Reg in my X-18's (Main reason for looking to upgrade is low to no offset and stiff shafts are needed) I liked them, although i have decided to purchase the Mizuno MP-60's as the feel is awersome and they look super at address :)
  15. I must admit, a few weeks ago i used to suffer big time from anger. We play for fun, we practice to get better and when it goes wrong, in Golf i find nothing gets me more frustrated! I had to kerb my temper, but then my old man asked me "are you a professional golfer?" i said "no" he said "Why worry then? Even professionals hit bads shots during games, and your not a Pro" Since then, my temper is a hundread times better, sure i still mutter under my breath a few bad words. Then i jsut take some deep breaths and think about why it went wrong. Always think positive, i know its hard when for example you hook the ball OB. But try to get back into a positive mind frame for the next shot!
  16. Can this thread be deleted. Found a good site which explained it for me! http://www.golfselect.com.au/armchai...olfFormat_id=2
  17. Im not 100% on how to score this. The main part i dont understand is the handicap and score index. On say a par 5 which is SI 1 (I belive this makes it the hardes hole) someone with an 20 Handicap will only have to get a 7 to get 2 points for for par?
  18. Got a friend who does daft things. Like, if he's in the bush he moves his ball to a better lie where its playable, of course me and my mate are watching him laughing as he thinks we cant see him... Same friend, on the 12th hole par 5. His 2nd shot goes close to going over the hedge and being lost. Me and my mate said he be lucky to find it. Funny enough he does find it, we go to look as we are sure it went over the fence/hedge. We get to the ball and say "Thats not your ball" he said "Yes it is, look it has my marking on it" I said " Yea, but thats a brand new ball look how clean it is lol!" Fool didnt think of that :)
  19. I have a similar swing regarding backswing length. I swing no further then say 10:30 and i have no trouble distance wise. Although being 6'5 i dont really need to swing it back alot to get decent speed! I like Camillo, deffo one for the future!
  20. When i had this problem it was due to either starting the swing with the right shoulder and swinging over the top, which also usually led me to cast the club.
  21. I would use the money for lessons and play time. I've seen good players hit the ball better then most with a walking stick, umbrella or clubs that are 30 years old. Of course the ball doesnt go as far but you get the point
  22. As said above, its not really the norm to tip the drinks cart in the UK although i usually let them keep the change. Tipping a caddy is another thing, i would have no problem giving them a tidy tip for 18 hole service!
  23. I find out your distances. I enjoy the 4 wedges in my bag! LW - 50 Yards (60 Degrees) SW - 75 Yards (57 Degrees) GW - 100 Yards ( 52 Degrees) PW - 125 Yards (48 Degrees) I can hit them 20 yards further or less with half swings full swings etc
  24. I like to hit the range 2-3 times week. Normally 150 balls a time. Also like to play 2-4 times a week which imo you cant beat playing. Its better then practicing, but obviously you have to practice to get the confidence to do it on the course! Normally 150 balls will take me 1:30~2 hours. I really need to practice more putting although i do practice, just not enough.
  25. I've hit my Ping G5 3 Wood tad over 300 yards. Although i had on my side Wind 80% of the fairway was down hill I can hit it 250 on a good solid swing normally (Not land 250 but land 230/240 and roll on to 250) But to hit 380, i doubt it. Dont often see the Pro's hitting there 3 woods over 320
